I was able to get it working with apple support by turning the iPad off then plug into the PC with iTunes install and right after you plug the iPad into the PC holding the home and power button down till the picture of a cable and PC show up then using iTunes updating and resetting the iPad to factory default. Once this was done I did not restore the iPad from the icloud and setup as new and it works great again. Not sure if restoring from backup will work as it may bring something over that was causing the issue but you can try it and if didn't work do it from scratch.

Thanks Sandor866, your info worked for me. Everything is working perfectly and even faster than before. My iPad Air 2 was almost unusable after the 13.1 update. No WiFi, not able to sign into iCloud or anything else that needed authorization. iTunes for Windows couldn't even connect or recognise the iPad while it was on. I had a backup on iCloud from a week ago so everything restored back to normal.

My world is the same as yours.

I am MOSTLY the tech guy in my family, too!

It is what it is.

Again, only you can “make the call”.

This is why I never, EVER install ANY Apple iOS upgrades/updates on release day 1, EVER!

I have told most of my family members never to upgrade/update their Apple devices on day 1 release, too!

Best of Luck to You!

DON'T INSTALL 13.1.1 AFTER THE BROKEN 13.1 :(

I had the same wifi problems with 13.1 - it could only connect to open wifi.

I installed the 13.1.1 update hoping it would help, and now my iPad Air 2 is stuck in a reboot loop. I'm trying to recover it now, but iTunes says it can't communicate with the ipad.

I'll update this when/if I fix it.

Users have already installed this recent iPadOS update with no issues.

Not everyone is having issues with iPadOS.

And Apple servers are still, probably being pounded on by both iPhone and iPad users and probably will STILL be pounded on over the weekend and into next week!

The main reason why I am STILL waiting out this iOS/iPadOS frenzy/pandemonium for another two weeks, or so.

I am in NO hurry to upgrade my one and only iPadOS compatible iPad Pro.

I never, EVER upgrade my iDevices when Apple initially releases a new iOS version.

My iPad Pro is still happily purring right along on iOS 10.3.3.

I have been waiting two years to finally upgrade, so what is another few more weeks for all of this frenzy and iPadOS issues to get straightened out!

Best of Luck to You!

Same but larger problem. A while ago my on/off/sleep button quit working. All the solutions here are using it.

Does anyone know a restore work around for an Ipad Air2 that does not include using the on/off/sleep button?

I did an Apple Chat, but there was no end result. And i was told to go to an Apple Care Centre.

Luckily i did a full backup to itunes on my win10 pc before installing ios 13.1.1 but now no wifi / hotspot / or itunes will connect to it. And i can't enter into a restore mode because the button doesn't work. Yikes.

Thanks for any help!

Same issue here. Same iPad Air 2. I installed 13.1.1 this morning (thinking that the 1.1 meant that they had already worked out the initial release bugs - wrong). I have probably spent 5-6 hours trying to sort it out. The download, prepare, verify and install went well. When I went through the "Welcome" steps and got to the "connect to the network" that's when the problem surfaced. It found my network but when I entered the network PW, it would not join (it never said "incorrect password"). I tried it repeatedly and got the same result. I tried rebooting the iPad and then connecting to my Wi-Fi network. Nada. I then went to my MBA and Keychain Access to confirm that I was using the correct network password (I was). I then posted on this community and asked how I could go back to 12.x.x and received a reply that there was no backward install and I should contact Apple. I contacted Apple Support and they had me do a Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings and then tried the network connections again. Nien. I then tried to backup my iPad to my MBA via iTunes. I got the message that iTunes got an error when trying to read the iPad Air 2 and could not connect. I tried using Hotspot on my iPhone but it wouldn't connect. I tried pairing my MBA via Bluetooth to the iPad Air 2 but the MBA would say it was connected while the iPad Air 2 indicated it was still trying to pair (spinning wheel)...the the iPad Air 2 just turned off Bluetooth (all by itself) and I couldn't get it to go turn back on.

Everything else on the iPad works (unless it's something that requires a Wi-Fi connect - which is almost everything). But, the books I'm reading on the iPad are there and work.

I made an appointment with the Apple Genius Bar for tomorrow afternoon (even though its a 46 mile one-way drive). I'm just going to have them either install a working 13.1.1 or reinstall 12.x.x on it and wait for a final bug fix on 13.1.1 before reinstalling. I think the update corrupted something.

I have my MBA and my iPhone X but this thing with iPadOS 13.1.1 is a big waste of my time.

You need to get the button repair, I’m afraid.

Many things you have to do with an iPad are useless without it!

Either pay Apple’s out of warranty 60% cost for a replacement iPad, in lieu of an actual repair of forfeit any future support for that device from Apple and do a Web search for a third party repair center in your “local” area that specialises in doing repairs of Apple products and devices.

No choice and no other options until that hardware button is repaired or the iPad is replaced.

Why won't you just do the erase and restore?

Your iPad Air 2 will be fine once this is done.

Many problem iPad Air 2 user with these issues have reported they went away after the erase and restore.

You just keep refusing to want to do this!

What if Apple doesn't come out with a patch for this?

Not every iPad Air 2 was adversely affected by iPadOS.

That should be the solution EXCEPT that it wouldn’t do an erase and restore (factory settings). It wouldn’t even do a reset network settings. I had Apple Support on the phone yesterday and we tried. I tried it with iTunes on my MBA and it wouldn’t connect. I tried it with Bluetooth and my IPhone and my MBA...it wouldn’t work. That’s they released 13.1.2 today. It’s a bug fix.

i’m at the Apple Store with the Genius as I write this and he has my iPad Air 2 connected to a computer and is downloading 13.1.2 to my iPad Air 2 now. Hopefully, I’ll be back to normal with the iPad Air 2. BTW, the genius said that the iPad Air 2 is getting to the end of its technologically useful life (processor speed vs OS demand = slower downloads, etc)...but, for what I use it (primarily reading books) it’ll serve me well...(I also have an iPad Pro 12” with keyboard and pencil.

Of course they are going to tell you that!

They ( Apple ) want you to purchase a new iPad!

I use both a 4-year old iPad Pro and an 8-1/2-year old iPad 2 every day!

My 8-year old iPad 2 is no speed demon, but at runs/workup data very acceptable performance level and about 1/2 the apps installed on this 8-year old iPad are still getting regular, daily updates.

Battery life is still fairly good, too!

I get between 5-6 hours of battery run time from that 8-year old iPad 2.

Still gets used on and off every single day, though.

I agree BUT he didn't try to sell me...he was just making an observation that with the increasing demands of the newer OSs and the slower speeds of the older chips, the performance will start denigrating. He said the same that you said, that he had an older iPad and it worked fine for what he used it for but it was much slower than the newer models.

I'm like you, I will continue to use my iPad Air 2 to read books, check weather, check email, etc and it will be fine. Although, I might upgrade to the newer iPad Pro because the newer Apple Pencil won't work with my older iPad Pro (and, I dislike the fact that I have to charge the pencil with a USB cable and I've already lost the little female-female connector once.

There are NO “official” solutions from Apple.

Apple support calls that have been reported here have also, been trying recovery mode and/or the full “nuclear” option of backup, wipe and erase, setup as new and reload all apps and then restore from backup.

The “nuclear” option has been the ONLY REAL option to solve many iPad Air 2 users’ iPadOS woes.

iPad Air users report here that a complete erase and restore on their iPads returned their iPad Air 2 models to normal operation amd performance.

iPadOS will not take my wi-fi password
