Cracked ipad screen with screen protector

Can i put a screen protector on top of a cracked ipad air 5 screen? The crack looks like a big letter C in the middle with both ends reaching the both edges of the ipad air.

Im looking for a tempered glass or those paper-like screen protectors.

Would appreciate any tip on having cracked screen.

Context: cant afford replacing ipad air screen. It’d cost me 80% of the original price.
