iPhone 4 Poor Battery Life? (Usage stats included)

I've made appointments at the Genius Bar and they said it was okay, however when I called Apple they said it was low battery life for an iPhone 4 so I'm kind of left hanging. I occasionally play games, but probably no more than 10 minutes or so. I mostly just use data for internet. Brightness is on 1/4, fetch email every hour, never more than 8 apps left in the multitasking bar. iOS 4.1.

I compared with my friend still with a 3GS and it doesn't seem like mine is any better. I've restored it as a new phone and have done multiple charge cycles. Current usage is below.

36% battery right now
4 hours and 26 minutes of usage
1 day 19 hours of standby

Is this normal? And if you can, please post your usage stats too. Thanks.

I just had my 4S swapped out this afternoon because of poor battery performance. It's been 7 hours since I got the new one, and I'm already below 20%. I haven't gone through multiple charge/discharge cycles yet but with these batteries you really don't need to. RIght now I've got all extra's off. Siri is off, location services off, bluetooth off, Hard reset the device so it was clean. My original 4S had to be charged at least twice a day, with bare minimum usage it still drained very fast. Just yesterday it dropped 50% in 3 hours! My original 4 with IOS5 did very well all through the beta's (I'm in the developer program) with the battery. Beta 2 was a little off but not like this. It's strange how sometimes it will drain quicker, 1% ever 2-3 minutes. And other times slower. I figured the new CPU would consume more battery, but not this much. Something else must be consuming it. More people I work with have the same problem so it's definitely a more wide spread problem.

Apple - feel free to reach out to me.

Still love the phone though. They'll get it figured out I'm sure.

hi apple computer team, I need to return to ios 5.0, now I have version 5.0.1, with version 5 had no problems, upgrading to 5.0.1 hoping to improve more, but has not been so, the duration of my battery its worst 😟, I need go back to ios 5.0, could give the option of returning to ios 5.0, they are grateful, I have always used their products, but if you cant do it, i change to another company, thx a lot 😐

I woke up this morning to the phone telling me there was an update to iOS 5.0.1. I selected the update button and the phone went through its dance. All totaled, the few minutes it took it to do its thing it drained 3% of the battery. Just 2 and half hours later and my phone is down to 82%. My iPhone 3G had much better battery life than the 4, but with this iOS 5.0, the battery life is getting ridiculous. Going to be crap if I can't go hiking for a few hours and not have to take the spare battery from Kensington with me!! Fix it Apple!!

What your saying happened to your battery also happened to me. I went to the genuis bar and they replaced the battery, and my phone drained even faster. I went to them again yesterday and they just gave me a new phone. The person at the genuis bar even told me her battery will last her 6 hours but since she's at work she can charge it whenever.

My battery life was okay after a reset , but it is horrible again!

i do notice something that grabs my attention in the system log with a app called system status.

i cleared the log and waited about 10 minutes and i refreshed it....

my iphone 4s checks the time 3 or 4 times per minute!

regardless if the setting time zone is on or not!

if its off it will say it could not get the time!

if it is on it will tell you it got the time

BUT REGARDLESS WHY IS IT CHECKING THE TIME EVERY 5 SECONDS?

this is even with the update!

Everything got better with the Iphone 4s but the same little battery was expected to somehow grow. Old digital cameras could take hundreds of photos on one set of rechargeable aa Batteries, then as the megapixel craze took over they simply could only take a few photos with the same batteries. That is why it is near impossible to find a digital camera that operates on 2 AA batteries anymore.

Apple was in a hurry to get the new phone out and really should have increased the size to accomodate a larger battery. They could have hid this by using a larger screen. SImply telling customers that the phone needed to be 1/8th inch thicker, I think everyone would have trusted them to make the right decision.

I can not think that Apple customers would have said heck no, I want my phone thin and small with a battery that is always dead. LOL

Hey,

I just purchased an iPhone 4 and I don't think my battery life is too bad.

At 77% I'm at 2 hours and 48 minutes usage and 1 day standby since my last full charge.

Is this okay? If I plug it in at 35% and leave it in for six hours and wake up at 100%, it drops to 99% right away, but when I turn off the iPhone and turn it back on it says 100% and stays that way for about 1.5-2 hours standby and like 25-30 minutes usage. Why does it do that?
