Why do some of my contacts show up as full screen pictures and some don't

Help. I am new to iphone and I am having a problem that is driving me crazy. When my husband calls me his picture shows up as a full screen picture yet when my sons call their pictures are little tiny squares in the upper right of my iphone screen. Why is that happening. What do I need to change to make all my contacts come in as full screen pictures. I have tried re-taking the pictures and using HDR setting and that was not it. I tried removing the contacts and entering them by hand instead of importing them and that did not work. What am I doing wrong. Thank you so much for the assistance.

It may be a Verizon thing as I could NOT make mine use a small picture using the steps I gave you. I don't have a Verizon iPhone so maybe someone else will read this and step in or try going by a Verizon Store and get them to help you test it.

Omg I was having the same problem and it's been driving me crazy. I finally figured it out. What you want to do is go to your contacts. Select the contact you want to assign a picture to (and have it come up full screen when they call). In the upper right corner click edit. Then click on the photo area. Then click on choose (if you already have the picture you want to use) or take photo. Once you have the photo you want to use then resize and click choose. Then click done in the upper right hand corner. After, try and call the person and it will show their picture full screen.

If you have the Facebook app and the contacts from phone are synced together with facebook friends I think the Facebook pictures automatically show in phone calls and are smaller.
If you do have the contacts synced with each other, unsync from facebook app and see if it helps.

Not working. This is actually the same way I have been doing it and I still am getting the small tiny picture in the upper right corner when the contact calls or when I call them. Any other ideas?

I have my sync turned off in my facebook app. Is there something else I need to do to make sure my Facebook app is unsynced? the only option I have in facebook is to sync, not unsync. Can you tell I don't know alot about facebook? 🙂

Yeah I was just gonna say it worked last night but today all my contacts are back to small. All except one. It's annoying me. The only thing I can think at this point is that one contact picture was taken with an actual picture so the file size is bigger than all the rest which were taken from my phone. I'm so about to go to the apple store and see if they can help me.

That is a good thought, however, I too have only one contact where the picture comes out full screen when that contact calls and that picture was taken with my iphone. If you figure anything else out I would love to hear it. Cause it drives me crazy

And I really do like to see the picture take up the full screen when the contact calls. It is such a nice feature... if it only worked.

My problem is BACKWARDS! (Maybe you can help). I want ALL of my contact pictures to show up SMALL in the UPPER RIGHT corner when they call or I call them. I add ALL of my pictures thru Mac Contacts and before iCloud everything worked out the way some people have explained in this blog (full screen for pics you took with the phone and small pic for pics added thru Contacts). But now it seems like (other than my OLD contacts that were added pre-iCloud) MOST pics I add show up full screen, but SOME (for no reason I can explain) do show up small. 😕

Any suggestions???

Full size pictures appear for contacts in your favorites list, and the smaller contact picture is for your remaining contacts.

I had same problem but solved it by changing pic dimensions to be 260 x 260 and change jpg to png , then it will show on left side while calling and if someone called you it will show full screen .

i tryed all the ways that were suggested up and not on of them works, all the pictures are coming small on the right corner. can sombody tell me how to make them come in full screen ??????

Yep, this totally worked! Its such a weird glitch - you basically just have to go through the motions of pretending to edit the contact photo by clicking edit and then resizing it (or leave the same size and just re-position the crop area if needed) and click done - boom, fixed!
