From what i understood from the keynote, it should work with "all devices from 2010"
and here is a link...look at the supported devices.

So why some iPhone 4 apps "magically" do?
The answer is "Controlled Obsolescence". If you want this feature, buy iPad 2. It is part of the plan. They knew it when they designed first iPad.
I just use the AV cables, ancient but always works on old and new TV's
I had an old TV and bought a new one, i had an old smartphone and bought a new one, and i also bought this digital AV adapter. And now i have to use old technology? I'm sorry, it's quite disappointing. I hope they include full HDMI mirroring in future iOS releases.
Not likely. It's iPad 2 only, and most likely, the mirroring feature will be iDevices going forward, only. Technology steps forward, rarely does it accommodate backsteps.

Not really. Two different things.
The APPS themselves do, because the DEVELOPERS have designed their app to be designed to support TV out. The iOS does not, because Apple didn't design any iOS except the iPad 2 to support this feature.
Certain iOS apps mirroring or not mirroring has nothing to do wtih Apple. It's the dev who chooses this.
The entire iOS mirroring is Apple's choice.
i can use mirror 🙂 .... JB! 😀
iPhone 4S mirrors just fine with HDMI. Sometimes the mirroring stops if too many apps are open...
