Flash player for iPad

Hi. i am thinking of buying the new iPad 2 and i wanted to ask if there is such a thing as a Flash player or alternative to Flash Player?

with lack of Flash compatibility what makes the iPad better than an Android tablet as regards the issue?

Intel Core i5, Windows 7, 4GB RAM

many might or might not agree with "Flash is dying" but still its a general notion that with Flash you can experince the web as it is and the way it was meant to be viewed albeit the annoying ads.

Sure with a device with Flash it consumes a lot of battery power but with technology improving (with ultra low power Nvidia Tegra 2 chips and power saving processors, etc.) surely that would compensate for that isn't it?

Actually, since the web is supposed to be based on open source standards, Flash is very much viewing the web as it was NOT supposed to be nor meant to be. In my mind, it is no different from web sites that insist on using ActiveX and limiting their use to IE for a browser. Closed, proprietary features are not the way to go for a global, universally accessible information exchange system.

You will get many answers telling you why the responder thinks Flash isn't on the iPad, and, I suspect, some suggesting you're somehow an idiot for anting to use Flash.

1. It's not on the iPad because Apple won't let it; Apple's stated reason is that it's buggy and a battery hog. Since neither I nor anyone else here is telepathic, we can't read Steve Jobs' mind, so there's no evidence ofr any other reason.

2. Whether the iPad is better than an Android device is for you to decide. If you really want Flash, or you prize the ability to customise, or you like different forma factors, Android may well suit you better. I prefer the iPad, for it's instant usability. I find some of its limitations very irritating, but mine has been reliable and functional for the over 11 months I've had it. I believe that Android still has some way to go to compete in the areas that are important to me - reliability, usability and battery life

@nick101

Sorry but i am not an idiot as you are sugesting. i am here as a fan and a novice when it comes to thr ipad. i might sound "critical" on my language but i am not here to pick a fight.

yes, you made your point and i'm thank ful for it. i am here to get answers, opinions and advice. that is all.

All i'm saying is self-centered, closed & a propeitory system (like let's face it..iOS in some of its features and Android as well) is not a way forward.

But we were given a choice here. both has its weakeness and strenghts and its up to people to decide and put up with technology.

onslaught, I didn't think nick101 was trying to say you are an idiot. He said "Some suggesting".

Anyway, I've had an iPad original now for a year. A few sites are unusable, but for the most part, the iPad experience for me has been great.

If I do get a flash web site I want to check out, I forward the link to my Windows laptop via email and I check the flash sites out later. This happens for me about 2-3 times per week, max.

There is an iPhone app, (also now a dedicated iPad version), called "Skyfire".

It permits viewing of most Flash videos, what many folks are more interested in for Flash anyway. Does currently not allow Flash games, etc. I have told several folks about it and they gave me good feedback, like it.

Read the description / reviews in App Store.

I have it and have been able to see some tech video stuff on iPad that normally have had to go to the iMac to view. I use the iPhone version (Got it for $1.99) as I had bought the app before getting the Ipad 2. Have not seen the need to spend the $5 bucks to buy the iPad version as seems similar to what I already have.

It is Flash that is closed and proprietary. HTML5 is an open standard that is not dependent on a single entity as with Flash. HTML5 is the way forward in this regard. There is nothing preventing any website from utilizing both if wanted or needed, or switching entirely to open standards that can be viewed on well over 100 million iOS devices sold to date - purchased over the last 4 years by many who probably have more disposable income on average. Apple can't manufacture the iPad 2 fast enough - demand remains very high and in this economy. Those purchasing an iPad 2 are not unemployed - or I wouldn't think so, and they can view content provided via HTML5 with a website, but not with Flash. If I had a website that generated any revenue, it would be a no brainer for me to provide all content on the website in a way that those with plenty of disposable income can view and access it while not being a significant battery drain and resource hog with their device.

I tried Skyfire on Android and i found it to have lots of pop-up ads and very fiddly/technical for me. i'm not too bothered if a browser or device is not capable of rendering flash (with all the issues behind it)

what is important to me is to have abrowser that really does it job properly renedering what is needed to be rendered, one that doesn't crash and one without the annoying ads.

Flash would only come in if i was using or viewing a website that requires it and view everyday.
