Divx player for iPad

Just read a review of avplayerhd.

Retooled for iPad 2 so it can play hd avi,mkv files.

I like it.

Worked with several avi's, played a vob file, also uses on screen gestures.

You will have four options for playing Vvid/Divx/mkv files on ipad.

1. Use AVplayer HD (as the gentleman before me suggested). It is amazing especially with the recent upgrade, which is specifically for the faster ipad 2 A5 processor. So you can actually play 720p mkv files in it. I do not have much problems with it and I love it.

2. Cinexplayer - This is a great app as well. I got this when it was free. But this App only plays Divx and Xvid files but does not support AC3 audio format. If your movie/TV show is ripped with AC3 audio format. you'll just have a video with no voice. They do not support MKV files at present, but are expexted to update it soon.

3. VLC player - This also I got it when it was availble on the App store. (Now sadly it doesn't). If you manage to gain access to it then great. This has a wider playing format. But I have had trouble playing HD movie with this App. Not as smooth as AVplayer HD.

4. The last option is to convert all the files to a suitable format (A very tedious process). Use handbrake, which can easily convert your video files into iPad format. Using this you can just use itunes to upload the converted videos into video player easily.

One Last thing, Both AVplayer HD and CineXplayer have better UI for managing files, including deleting it directly from your ipad 2.

I know that most of this options have been mentioned in the above posts. I just thought of giving you a complete idea as what all option you have for playing a ripped video.

Note: there many other players available, but with mixed reviews. In my opinion AVplayer HD is the best availble to play many formats, including HD.

AVPlayerHD is perfect. I convert a DVD with handbrake to an ipad format (m4v) and it works well. AVplayerHD can also read .avi/.srt.

But I have an issue with AppleTV to play a movie recorded on the Ipad2: the audio is ok but no video.

Have you test this configuration?

Please check if your ripped video has its audio encoding in AC3 format... if it does then it will be difficult to play those avi files on apple tv... check out the drivers avaible. I know of such for quicktime but not sure of apple tv..

Get 'good player' installed or neother if u have...den open itune, goto apps, below file sharing select "good player" or ne apps(player)...click..add>select file(s)>open....n here u r done....enjoy!!!

thx for this thread. i have over 500gb of divx encoded movies and i've always based my choices of media player on whether they play divx. cinex doesn't show support for divx in their profile though.

btw, do all these players have an adjustable screen size or are they all full screen?

i prefer a free divx player, who can kindly provide the free download link for me

Like anything, you ge what you pay for. Free ones aren't generally as good.

I am using Oplayer to both stream and download the files into my Iphone/Ipad to watch videos... it handles all files I have thrown at it... including MKV.

Only when I tried to play HD MKV would it start to behave funny by stuttering the sound....

With that, I would use Air Video to stream from my server... works very well...

In for a solution as well... I use to use buzz player
