Iphone recovery mode- will i loose pics and videos?

I tried updating the software on my iphone 4 but there was an error and it went into recovery mode. Now im panicing because itunes is telling me I need to restore the iphone- returning it to default settings. When i check the latest sync it is just before i tried updating, but i dont know whether my pics, videos, contacts etc sync, i think it is just music.

I really dont want to loose all my other information and data. Please help!!
