iPhone 4 constantly shows No Service

My iPhone 4 with ios5.0.1 always show 'No Service'. Sometimes it happened once a day, but sometimes 5 times a day. What I did was that I enabled the 'Airplane' mode and disabled it again, I will then see full bar of reception but the carrier's name (in my case is Maxis) didn't appear. I was unable to make call/ receive call. When others call me, they heard the normal ring tone, however, my phone won't ring.

In order to get back the reception, I have to restart my phone.

Has anyone experienced it? I have tried googled, some said it could be due to firmware, some said it's hardware, some said it's carrier. Hope someone can advise.

Yhyj, you can try to call Maxis and request them to reset your network settings. Then you reset your phone's network settings too. The next time it happens, you can try to enable and disable the cellular data. If it still doesn't work, I think you will have to restart your phone.

Does anyone know when will Apple release the next firmware? Some said it was supposed to be last week.

It happened again today, and it's worse as it didn't show 'No Service'. It was still showing full bar with Maxis sign so i wasn't even aware that my phone was out of service! When others called me, they could hear the ringing tone but my phone didn't ring. Constantly getting 'No Service' is already annoying, now it gets worse!!

From Malaysia with telco Maxis..

Same thing happened after iphone4 OS update to 5.0.1.

Suspected that phone stays permanently in No Service mode after entering an elevator or bad service area.

Usually I won't find out until later! When others call, they'll hear ringing tone but the phone just stays idle..

Fix this by restarting the phone each time it's in No Service.
Restored to factory settings and update again once and the same **** is occuring..

Never jailbreak the phone..

Just hope it's fixed in next update...

Lately this happened without showing 'No Service'. It still show full bar with the Maxis sign, which is even worse. Has Maxis done something?

For those who have the same 'No Service' problem, do you always turn on your 3G and Cellular Data? I have a feeling that this won't happen to those who always have their cellular data enabled.

I do agree that for those who used to enable & disable the celluar data, the same probelm may be hide without their knowledge. So actually the affected population could be larger.

Your case of having probelm with full bar with maxis logo create bigger concerns of undetection of phone mulfunction. Just wonder whether constantly enable & disable the cellular data will be the temporary fix ???

Kian Wei, do you also have the cellular data turned off most of the time? Can you pls ask around, for those who are using ios5.01, and don't experience this 'No Service' issue, do they constantly have 'cellular data' enabled?

I have asked a few, some have cellular data enabled most of the time while some doesn't, but they don't experience this problem.

Is there any channel we can report this issue to Apple? So that they can investigate and fix this prob in the next version?
