IPhone 4s shuts off with high battery

Okay if you can figure out the problem you are a genius.

So my first iPhone 4s started shutting off around 5%(which is normal I hear) but it kept getting higher each time and got to 45% then shut off. Well I got it replaced and the new one worked fine for a week and then one day I had to get a little charge because I had to leave so I put it on the charge at 32% and took it off around 86%. Well it started shutting off at 13% then I did a factory reset and it fixed it for about 4 days and now it shuts off at 27%

I've tried all the resets, tried different cords, and anything possible. The only time I got it to 1% is when I went on a trip I forgot my charger and it shut off at the 24% then sat off for about 8 hours after till I got it to a charger. So I expect a phone to go from 100% to 1%.

I can give the log if wanted

Your statements are very true. I have had my phone since October 2012. This issue has persisted since that point. I just recently had apple test the battery and the health is actually very good, according to their testing. They tested for hardware faults, there were none. So they rest the iOS to the most current. Nothing has changed. The phone drains from 50/60% to 25% and then dies. Once plugged in, it reads 38%. If it's not the battery, not the hardware, it can only be the software.

Previously I was using the 4s 16Gb and did not encounter this problem at all, however, I mostly used that one as a music player and didn't keep a SIM card in there (basically I'm flight mode 95% of the time, and WiFi for the rest). In Jan 2014, I upgraded to the 64Gb 4s and used it as a phone with the SIM card in and not in flight mode. This is when I noticed the random shutdown issue at various battery levels, typically from 10-35%. I had that phone replaced, but still encountered the same issue. I'm now on my third 64Gb 4s and still finding this problem occurring. I've had the hardware checked and was told the battery was in excellent condition. I've also done what most people here have and used the latest software and carried out multiple factory resets.

This is really disappointing as this thread was created way back in 2012 and the issue still hasn't been resolved!

Hello folks.

My experience is simple as **** :-)) well imagine over-the-warranty car trying to go up the very steep hill... that is exactly what we pushing our iPhones to do, while heavy-using it... esepcially in Cold weather + 3G/4G on + Cellular data on + Weak cell signal <=> result is the engine (battery in our case :-)) dies suddenly. Simply replace the engine (battery) with brand new one n Voila! car is going fine again! for about a year (dunno how in ur country, we here have 6mth warranty on batteries, so anything >6mth is a gift :-)) I did it with many iPhones n worked like a charm over n over again :-)) Good Luck every1 ! n Happy iPhoning :-))

(excuse my CZenglish, im not native... Prague here, "Check" Republic :-)) aka .cz

These DFU and Restore and Resets and Battery Recalibration did not work for me.

I have suffered with this switch off problem for 6 months now. Finally I think I may have fixed it.

Firstly, just turn the phone to low power mode after a full charge and revel in the long battery life. Irrespective of the excitement you will see in the battery lasting so long, do observe whether the phone turns off or not.

If you find that the phone doesnt turn off, then it is clear that there is no hardware problem. Now your culprit is either an app that uses background data, or an app that uses location.

For me, turning off background app data worked and my phone drained power gracefully and turned off only after 1% charge. When I turned it back on I started getting shutdowns at 40% or 20%. I seem to have narrowed it down to whatsapp.

Try turning off the background app data for whatsapp, or better still, uninstall that godforsaken app and your $500+ iphone will show no battery problems.
