Can spyware be installed on a non jailbroken phone?

Im pretty sure my iphone 4 isnt jailbroken as I purchased it brand new. If you restore your iphone to factory settings does that automatically wiped any spyware that may have been on there?

iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1

Thank you for your help! Would I be able to ask you another question? Do you know anything about cellular data?

I have an iphone 4. I don't have any apps installed except for the ones that come with the phone. I don't email set up. I have cellular data turned ON and 3G enabled. Safari etc has been manually closed and I have not touched my phone for the last 10mins. Why when I check my cellular date usage in the settings on my phone does it show data for sent and received? P.s I reset the data usage count to 0 before doing this experiment.

Thanks

Sorry guys I'm probably being completely paranoid but just want to make sure I have all the facts.

1. Spyware cannot be installed on an iPhone 4 unless someone has physical access to your phone and the phone is jailbroken. Correct?

2. If the person who is trying to install the spyware knows how to jailbreak your phone, is there any way they can hide that they have done this? So that you have no idea that it's been jailbroken?

Thank you

The site you posted is almost completely irrelevant to the current jailbreak scene, much of the warning and information at the bottom of the page is false and/or old and does not apply to the current available jailbreak.

I'm pretty sure it's an Apple fan club site for a high school. And yes, regarding jb, it's not very relevant as this point in time.

If you have any doubts if your iPhone has been jailbroken, the best procedure to follow is:

- Link your iPhone to iTunes and make a backup

- Run Repair option from the info panel in iTunes, using the backup restore option.

This will trigger a re-install of the system software on your iPhone as well as restoring all you had on the iPhone.

After this procedure no un-authorised third party software can exist on your iPhone.

Hope this will answer your question.

Hey good sir. First and foremost: No. There is no way to jailbreak a phone remotely. Unfortunately the huge misconception is that spyware can only go onto a jailbroken phone. Spyware can be installed on a iPhone with nothing more then a phone call to the device. Will it be really powerful? Probably not. As Mac users have been forced to believe is that our apple devices are the most secure around. We have been mislead and/or lying to ourselves. What is tr true is that Mac devices are secure from viruses not remote hackers or spyware.

The world record for a computer to get hacked (with full administrative rights) is five seconds. This happened just last year and was done with nothing more then an ordinary RF remote controller.

The only reason I have learned so much is because I am a victim of spyware, remote access and cyber stalking. I have been hacked for more then two years. I did not notice untill last summer. Now the level in which I have been breached can only be done with hands on device at some point in time. Needless to say I am now getting a divorce and hopefully justice will be served legally against violators.

I am not saying live with constant fear. Someone truly has to hate you to go to the measures that have been executed on me. If you have any questions on pursuing legal action. I have advice of many options. I can tell you wether or not it is on your phone. Unfotunately I am just as lost on how to actually rid of it.
