How do I downgrade from iOS 6.0 to the previous version?

I am having many problems with iOS 6 that I didn't have before downloading it...

How can I go back to the previous version?

iPod touch, iOS 6

Make sure you hold down the Option key when you click Restore. Then you'll be able to use Finder to get to the firmware file you downloaded from the link above.

I hope that works! Otherwise, it seems like you'll have to wait until they fix ios6 so it's actually compatible with the last generation of ios devices.

Maybe they're hoping we trade in for the 5g's?

My wife just bought me an older (read 3g) iTouch from a used shop for Christmas. It was running V4.2.something.

It seemed to be working fine except the double tap of the home key didn't bring up the suspended tasks.

Stupid me, I wanted to try a different version like V3.2.? and asked iTunes to "restore" to factory defaults.

After about 40 minutes, it had erased the V4 OS and failed to install any OS at all. When I was done, I got the picture of a USB cable and arrow to an apple Logo.

Now, I cannot go back to any older OS. I am attempting to install OS V6 and hope it works.

I am pretty disappointed about this and am leaning toward returning the gift and going Android.

I hear a lot of negativity toward Apple lately. It feels like they are a bunch of old men, like Chevy, stuck in the mud relying on the idea they were first therefore the best. Except the competition is passing them by.

Windows and Google is heading toward making a better OS and Apple will get left in the dust.

As it should be.

If a company cannot change it's method of operation and deal with the changing needs of it's customers, then it SHOULD go away.

I don't know if Win and Goog is better then the i stuff. I have no experience with them. But from what I read here, I see a pattern developing.

The very first desktop computers running a GUI were Apple, and now look. 98% of all desktops and laptops are running Windows software.

For years we had no choice with the smart phone but to go with the iPhone and iPods of the industry The were great products and are still.

But now, again, the competition is simply going to run them by.

Catch a clue Apple.

My 2 cents, Mark.

It turns out, the latest OS I can install is 4.2.1. It is an iPod Touch 3G.

As such, I cannot install ANY app from the apple store.

I tried to Jailbreak it, but there are no apps there I want. I want a simple ebook reader, and VNC.

So, I will restore it to default condition, return the device, and NEVER purchase another Apple device again.

I keep wondering why Apple would make such a poor long term business decision forcing some 20 million people to go through this. Then it occurred to me. They know **** well they are going to get bad press and loose a LOT of customers. They must feel their company can't make it in the long run competing against Google and Microsoft so they are trying to get a lot of short term money, then fold the company and a few people at the top are going to get very rich, just like the bankers.

like a lot of folks on here, my ipod touch 4th gen is not working very well after the 'upgrade' to iOS 6. Several of the apps (3rd party and Apple) frequently crash and lag. Since I dont have a choice of going back or "downgrade" after making the horrible mistake of upgrading, I have no other choice but to throw the whole thing in the trash and shop for a NON-Apple product.

why would i donate trash to a charity? ah, its not trash yet.. im struggling on with the beast. Tried the "Restore" option and, after waiting about an hour for it to do its thing, was not helping - at least it didnt get worse.

So, what is the remedy for apps that crash a few seconds after opening? My ipod was much more stable before upgrading - version 4 was just fine for me, but now its probably incompatible with the apps and its unsupported to go back to what worked... Can you see why I feel a chaffing sensation?

APPLE: I do not want more features and options bells and whistles... Just give me something that is refined, works great, and is reliable. Thank you.
