iPhone 5 purchased off Craigslist and can't activate it...

I purchase an iPhone 5 off Craigslist. It was sealed in the box. When I got home, I tried activating it but, it says the other persons number and is asking me to confirm the last four of there social security number and billing zip code. This is the 3rd one I've purchased and only one I've had issues with. The others I purchased were from AT&T and Fry's. They didn't have this same set up. Anyone know how to get around this? I spent 2hrs on the phone today with Apple and they never heard of an iPhone asking for this although they had this same issue on the iPhone 4S. I tried contacting the person I purchased it off of with no success of reaching them. Please help if you know how to solve this issue. I also have Apple working on this issue but, they said it could take up to 4 days.

"Someone who says he has an iPhone that is legit, who says he lives in <insert city>, who says it is perfectly safe to meet him at 11:30 PM in a dark parking lot ... says I can save $30 on my iPhone ... sounds good to me!"

All "Darwin Award" joking aside (people are awarded the Darwin Award *postumously* because they *succesfully* removed themselves from the gene pool), some people do sometimes bring this on themselves. Just wish all people were able to avoid the more obvious traps.

for those still curious, the procedure is as follows:

lets say you just go and buy an at&t iphone off craigslist that is stuck at activation. you will need SOME at&t sim card to go through activation. the easiest way to do this would be to find a friend who already has an at&t iphone 5 (nano sim) and just stick his sim card in your phone, activate it and give him back his sim, then put yours in. assuming it is unlocked, your carrier will show up and you are good to go.

i have done this with every iphone since the original, had an old at&t sim card sitting around for just that purpose, got it from a friend, it wasn't even an "active" sim card anymore, it just has to be tied to an valid at&t phone number.
