Apple TV - Can't Sign In, or use YouTube (but other stuff works)

Apple TV was working fine up until yesterday.

I had rented & watched Men in Black 3 and it was all good - that was my first day experience wi Apple TV - great!

Now it's all gone downhill...

Nothing changed on my network - connecting wired directly to my router/modem to the net.

Apple ID is fine as i've tested it on other iDevices.

I have the iTunes Store set to Australia with correct Time Zone.

I've got Home Sharing turned on with my Apple ID on the Apple TV and it's working.

The problems ...

When I try to Sign In, I either get (it's random) ... 'Unable to Sign In - Apple TV can't connect to the server at this time. please try later.', OR 'Unable to Sign In - The Apple ID you entered couldn't be found or your password was incorrect. Please try again.'

When I try to watch YouTube I get ... 'No content was found - There is a problem communicating with YouTube. Try again later.'

Funny thing is everything else works - Movies & TV Shows previews, iTunes Festival, Trailers, Vimeo etc.

*** ? Any ideas guys?

FYI - I'm with iiNet (Australia).

I am running into the exact same thing all day today.

I am in canada and cannot access any of my purchases on Apple TV. It will not log me into the Itunes store for it.

My credentials work in itunes on my pc. Just not the apple tv. And I can watch stuff like the trailers also, so it isnt a problem access the internet.

After creating my "page" for my YT channel (the one that's only for YT and separate from my Google+ stuff), I clicked on the advanced tab under my username in YT Settings. I put in the long username with the @pages.plusgoogle.com and the password I used to login (not the password generated for specific devices via 2-step verification). This worked and I can browse my primary YT channel on ATV2 running the most recent OS. Hope this helps.

I finally solve the problem of Youtube's account with Apple Tv! I had tried everything! Reset all settings, 2 steps verification and nothing worked. 😟 Today I found a solution! I keep active 2 steps verification and I access the youtube options channel (youtube.com / features). The account status was pending!!!! I made the account verification and then I sign in using the App Password in security options in Google. On my Apple TV, I've logged with my account and put the generated password by google!!!! and it worked!!

Good luck for everyone!!!

Hi,

I had this problem too and find a solution or better a workaround.

First I tried to activate 2 step verification, but this didn't help.

Then I created a second youtube Channel under my normal YouTube Account.

Now I found the following option under advanced settings in YouTube:

Default Channel
Use this channel xxx@gmail.com) when I sign in to my xxx@gmail.com account.

activate this to use your primary Google/YouTube account as default channel

Finally login in Apple TV is possible again with my normal Google account

open to test is:

- deactivate 2-step verification to clarify if this is necessary or not.

- delete 2. YouTube channel to check, if it is still possible to login in Apple TV YouTube App.

Hope that helps

Marcel

I had all sorts of trouble recently signing into my Apple TV. I use a small ISP, I thought maybe the problem was my DNS? Therefore I reset my router to use the Google DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). After saving, I rebooted the router, rebooted the Apple TV and it all seemed to work. Funny thing is, I'm able to access a couple of other websites that I was having trouble with, but all is good now. Hope this helps someone.

Well here we are nearing 2015, another big Apple TV update and apparently nobody at Apple thought there was anything wrong with the ability to use a YouTube account with an 3rd Gen. Apple TV. It still doesn't work. My Macs have no such problem, and my iPhones or iPads don't either. My nearly 5 year old WD TV has no problems with it, and neither does my new WD TV. And my otherwise buggy old Boxee Box still has no problem with YouTube accounts at all, and never did. Just the Apple TV...

of all things.......

I mistakenly logged out from YouTube from AppleTV, Then after I was unable to login back to You Tube in AppleTV and Blueray Player, thou I was able to login to PC, ipad, iphone etc.

I also created a new google account and was unable to login to AppleTV and Blueray player. Again I was able to login to PC, ipad, iphone etc.

I logged into YouTube account in my PC then I created mychannel. I was successfully able to login to both AppleTV and Blueray player.

I created mychannel for my old You Tube account, then I was successfully able to login to both AppleTV and Blueray player.

This worked for me. Hopefully this will help others.

Google is overcautious, and they don't play well with Apple, but what you can do is make app-specific passwords.

Even if you have two-step authorization. Sign into your Google account, Gmail or whatever, youtube.

then go here:

https://security.google.com/settings/security/apppasswords

At the bottom of this list, or non-existent list if you haven't made any, are two menus, one is Select App and one is Select Device.

You select YouTube, then "other", which you can name AppleTV.

It generates a 16-character password.

On the Apple TV, use your gmail address, then type in this 16-character password (It lists it with spaces, but you don't have to include them)

Try it!

Nov 2014.

After reading various postings in this helpful forum this is how I solved it:

Through the optic of Google's two-step verification Apple TV is seen as one more gadget, so if you have your Google account set up for 2-step verification, go to this page (with your Apple TV's Youtube app on, in login)

https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en

Login with your regular Google/YT user id

Do NOT enter your regular Google/YT password

Enter the password that you get from the accounts process above

Select App: YouTube

Select Device: Other

Call it something like "YouTube via AppleTV"

since you'll need to use this process for every other gadget you use YouTube through you may as well have a name protocol e.g. (name of Google product) via (name of gadget) as in the example above.

Best wishes ...and yes GOOGLE AND APPLETV get it together and collaborate on behalf of customers. It was so much easier to set up my FireTV and FireStick ...and who knows when Apple will update AppleTV while keeping it at a descent price!

Hi,

I tried the whole process but it didn't worked for me.

However, it took me to an important thing, if you have an account in google and you are administrator of another google+ account, you must create the channel on youtube for the other account as well and then specify in advanced settings, of your gmail account in youtube, which account will be the default account channel.

In addition I turned the 2 step verification off on gmail, and reset the Apple TV. After that, I put all my accounts in again and everything worked fine.

As a side comment, this problem occurred when I changed my Apple TV from the Ethernet cable to a wifi connection, I guess it will be best to reset if you make a change on the network connection.

I am having a problem logging into my Apple TV. It was all working fine until a couple days ago. I believe we had a power surge and I had to reset my modem, wireless router, and passwords. The wifi is working fine, however, the Apple TV isn't. It won't recognize my Apple Password, even after a reset. I can't log into the Cloud, ITunes, or Home Sharing. Any thoughts, helps, suggestions are welcome!
