After iOS 6.01 I still cannot send text messages over wifi while in airplane mode and I definitely could with iOS 5.x. Even with cellular data turned off, when I try to text it tells me I must disable airplane mode to text. Needless to say, since I'm flying, I shouldn't do that. Is this a bug, or I'd there some new, hidden parameter that needs to be set?

I use airplane mode all the time because i don't get cell reception at my house... Without it enabled my battery dies in 8 hours tops... With AP mode on it lasts at least 16.
I have always been able to send or receive iMessages while on AP mode until just recently. Its definitely not possible to bypass the "disable airplane mode or use wifi to send..." window that pops up when i open my messages app. It is either ok or settings... I cant figure out how to "use wifi" for the life of me now.
Click on OK and send your iMessage - note that you cannot text to anyone not using an iPhone or iPad.
Thats obvious and ive tried more "indepth" fixes... i.e. Switching send receive accounts in settings, full reboot, turning wifi off then back on... Even did a full restore 8(

Found an idea on another thread suggesting i signed out of imessage and then sign in again...
Just did this and it worked!

Okay I've tried this and now it is stuck on "waiting for activation"
That is because you are out of the country and it cannot text your device. A Reset of your device or resetting network settings would have been a better approach than turning iMessage off and back on.
