Where does iTunes 11 keep the backup of my iPhone 5?

I know it used to be here:

~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

bust since I've upgraded, where is the new location?

iTunes places the backup files in the following places:

  • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
  • Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and clickOK.
  • Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press theReturn key.

If you have checked iCloud in the automatically Back Up section then these won't apply

Following your instructions, I've located all the back-up files on my PC but all the files names are very long jumbles of letters/numbers, which I'm unable to open.

because you're not supposed to open anything. iTunes deals with the backups.

So why are you messing with the backup on your computer?

Transfer them from the iPhone.
