how can i determine that my iPhone 5 (A1429) is a GSM or CDMA model?

They told me that if the iphone 5s is a GSM model it will work in cyprus!!I dont know who is telling me the right thing to do!!i am confused!!!!

Yes, it is correct that if you buy an unlocked GSM model iPhone 5s from the Apple store, then it will work in Cyprus and I am not telling you anything different, but what I am pointing out is that although an unlocked GSM phone will work, the frequencies may not be fully compatible with what you would get in Cyprus and the model numbers of the phone will differ.

What this means is that the 5s is a 4G/LTE compatible phone and with differing freuqencies and a different model number, you may not ever be able to get 4G in Cyprus on a US purchased iPhone, although it will still work.

Also, remember the warranty issue.

If you want to buy the phone, then yes, an unlocked GSM phone will work, but my advice is to wait until the iPhone 5s is relesed in Cyprus and buy it there and you will get full compatibility or at least buy in another European country where the phone is likely to be more compatible with use in Cyprus than a USA purchased iPhone wil be.

I've an iPhone 5 bought thru Verizon, model A1429, and I took it to Cape Verde Islands and I got a SIM card from a local provider cut it and install it and voilà!! It worked perfectly! Cape Verde uses the same sistem than Europe so I don't think you're going to have any problems if your phone is an A1429.

You know, people, I am not an iPhone newbie (I've had 3g for the last 5 years, and I got 5s as a present 1 month ago), but I am a newbie in this forum.

Apple, the company, is REALLY bad when it comes to customer care. Also, they are very slow on updates of service, and - no info from them on several issues we might have with their service.

So, I see it attracts similar customers.

I mean, I've been reading this posts and all it have are partial informations, and constantly off-topic, missunderstandings ... Very hard to find any good from this. Why the heck are all you here if you won't help?

So, only gff1983 member got usefull info (apart from one post from the begining where someone (munas i think) linked apple's info on the numbers ...) However, apple's info is not complete.

And thread starter acctually wanted to know for sure what is his kind of phone. I have similar problem. My phone was bought in Hong Kong, unlocked, from certified dealer, by a relative, as a present to me. The number on the back is A1530. Apple got nothing on that, it just says:

• A1533 or A1457: iPhone 5s (GSM model)
• A1533 or A1453: iPhone 5s (CDMA model)
• A1528: iPhone 5s (GSM model China)
• A1530: iPhone 5s

I am using the phone in Europe, on T-mobile network. I don't know, and I don't wanna know what type of network T-mobile here use. I just want my phone to work as it suppose to!

I got 3 hrs usage on my phone fresh from the box. Now, after several full charges, I got 6-7 hrs. It Is Not Enough, considering the fact I GOT NO APPS on my phone and I use it to talk (very light user) and for changing settings, little bit of allarms ...

So, I want to try to CLEAN INSTALL my phone, hoping it helps. U know, I couldn't find in this support section ANY INFO on the procedure how to do clean install!!!!

Anyway, I did download an app 1 hr ago, it was 15 mb app, that was downloading for 22 minutes on my 5MBT internet speed (so it should take around 30 seconds). That is not acceptable, but, it seems no straight answer about that here too (been checking several threads)

I need to download ipsw separately, since it is over 1GB big file. THAT IS WHY I NEED TO KNOW IS MY PHONE WITH CDMA. Apple did not say yes nor no about my specific model.

But, from ALL this thread reading, espetially thanx to gff1983, i will consider my phone as without CDMA.

You know, that is another problem: I live about 6-8 months of the year here, in Europe, in a country not supported by Apple. 4-6 months of the year I spend in the US (NC), and that's for the past 3 years now. My card and money is tied to a european bank, so, needless to say - I can't buy any apps. That is the reason why I never joined apple community of any sort before (but did iphone jailbreake ones, which I had to do with my last 3g, and didn't wanna) I hoped things are changed now, but nope, still lot of countries missing from apple id list (not missing for selling iphones list though)

So, what's the point of having iPhone if not being able to buy apps u need?

It seems i will have to jailbreak again.
