My iPod touch says there are no available updates even though I'm running iOS 5.1

I connect my iPod to a power source and check for updates, but it says I'm already up to date, which I'm not. Any help?

Do you have a 3rd generation iPod touch (no camera)? iOS 5.1.1 is the latest version for that model.
