Don't know the answer to Why?, but I can tell you if it were my device I would schedule an appointment at the Genius bar. I imagine it is still under warranty. You don't want to burn your house down.
Unplug the charger and then replug.
Cheers, Tom 😉
I guess is the charger is faulty, I don't want to do a new iPad replacement because I have a Belkin screen protecter on it which cause me MYR 80 and it is not covered on the warranty. I just want to know whether other iPad mini user have the same problem.
Yes this method allows me to charge, but is very troublesome that I have to unplug it every time. Is it normal that the charger gets very hot?
It IS NOT normal for the charger to get very hot.
It's really disappointing that apple will have a faulty product, don't know weather replacing a new charger will help or not.
My ipad mini only charged to 90%. I had the charger changed as it was only 2 weeks old.
But with the new charger, it still stops at 90%.
I used my old ipad2 charger and it charges to 100%!!
Not sure what is the problem.
Ya the adapter is the problem, I changed a new one and it can charge untill 100.
Sometimes apple also produce faulty products ha!
But I already had my charger replaced with a new one. And it still charges to 90%.
I do not think that charger or ipad have a problem. I have seen that before and used another outlet to charge. Something in that particular outlet was faulty (Amperes or Volts, no idea)
Amp does matter. If the problem still occur take it to apple service center and make a new unit replacement.
I used my old ipad2 charger, it charges to 100% full.
But using the supplied charger for ipad mini, it stops at 90%. That is even after changing to a new one!
I have also reset my mini after getting the replacement charger. Still stops at 90%.
In that case just take the whole unit to apple they will know what to do
Or you can try to do a restoration. Before you do that remember to back up your data

I guess there are two choices.
Continue run around with replacements.
Try another outlet.
Just an update, I managed to charged full 100% using my 5w iphone5 charger!!
The battery was running at 2% before charging. It takes 3.5 hrs for a full charge. The other charges will stop after 3 hrs at 90%, any range from 2% to 15% before charged.
So it seems like not all chargers can charge ipad mini. So far I tested 4 iphone charges at the same location only 1 can charge to 100%.
I have noted somewhere from another forum commented that Emerson charges can charged to 100%. I have tried 2 Emerson charges but only 1 can charged to 100%.
Not sure exactly what is causing this... Now at least I have only 1 5w charger that works for my ipad mini. Of cos, the other 10w ipad2 charger can charge mini to 100%.
