Unable to Join Network, iPad 2, ver.6.1.3

I have read and tried all the various suggestions on fixing this issue, and none that are acceptable to me have solved it.

I have done all the router resets, all the iPad network resets, tried various sequences of restarts and none have worked.

I have done staic IP which also did not work.

Router is ASUS RT-N66R with latest firmware. Security is WPA2.

No other wireless device is having an issue, and the iPad was fine before software "upgrade".

What I have found that does work is to rename the wireless network, i.e. change SSID from what it has been to anything else. No other change made to passkey or any other parameters, only a name change to SSID. Since I have several devices and users it is not a practical fix to change the SSID, nor does it seem right to change all other devices for the one device that has some bug.

It is as if the iPad, in spite of all the resets, network resets, router resets, still wants to retain some vestige of a non working profile. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Some things to try first:

1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)

• Launch Settings app

• Tap on Wi-Fi

• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list

• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Thanks to all that have given input. Before I even posted I read many posts looking for a solution, and now retried them per some of the responses to my post.

To be clear I can make it work fine by changing NOTHING on my router other than to change any character in my SSID. It appears it can be anything but what was used previous to the iPad SW "upgrade". This is not a channel issue, not a security key issue as I change none of that, only one character in the SSID, and it finds and joins the network. Of course all my other wireless devices go off line.

Is there a more rigorous reset level I can try on the iPad since it seems to have some corrupted vestige of old SSID/key combination. I have tried doing an iPad reset, a "Reset Netork Settings", and all of these have been done with various combinations of WiFi on/off, router reset, different sequences, etc.

I should also be clear that the iPad NEVER joins the network, this is not an issue of joining and dropping off.

Well finally "solved" it, just not sure why it was allowed in previous OS but will move on.

The issue was in having the ASUS router seperate devices on 2.4GHz and 5GHz. I used different keys on each spectrum in order to do some spectrum management since I have a lot of wireless home automation and was an attempt to mitigate interference. The ASUS router is capable of doing this.

Well it appears that the iPad did not go for this in the latest sofware release. I now just use the same SSID and key for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz and all is back to normal.

My case is no doubt a rare scenario, but wanted to share in case someone else bumps into this "feature".
