iOS7 missing podcast list in Music app

Did it get moved anywhere? It's referenced in Settings (Lyrics & Podcast Info), but it's not showing up in the actual Music app.

If I have to, I will go back to using my 5th generation iPod for podcasts. I far prefer being able to create a playlist of the podcasts I want to listen to in the order I listen to them ON THE COMPUTER. I see that I can create one on the go station that lets me arrange individual episodes, but I have to do that on the phone. Yuck.

The whole thing is hokey and makes no sense. Why are they being so paternalistic and deciding that I cannot put podcasts in a music playlist?? How was that hurting anyone? Why remove that functionality????

Hi Douglas,

You can still create an ordered playlist of podcasts on your computer and add it to your iPhone in iOS7 if you have the Pocasts app installed:

(1) Create your podcast playlist in iTunes on your computer.

(2) Plug in your iPhone and bring it up in iTunes.

(3) Click on the 'Podcasts' tab at the top.

(4) Check the 'Sync Podcasts' box.

(5) Scroll down to section that reads 'Include Episodes from Playlists'

(6) Check the box next to the podcast playlist you have created.

(7) Click 'Apply', sync your iPhone, and eject it.

(8) Open the Podcasts app on your phone.

(9) Go to 'My Stations'

(10) Go to 'iTunes Playlists'

(11) Your playlist should be there and should sync automatically when you plug your phone in from now on.

It is a bit more awkward, but it works.

My problem is that you can no longer MIX music and podcasts. The whole 'changing the 'media type' thing is very clunky ...

Does anyone know of a third party app that will allow you to do this? Please let me know!!

Thanks!

Thanks for the tip. In fact, I do all of these things anyway because that is what was needed in iOS6. However, I did not see the tab for iTunes playlists. That makes a world of difference to me, and I greatly appreciate the pointer. This means I can continue on in my retro ways, only I have to use the podcast app instead of the music app.

Still, why did they mess with it (starting in iOS6)? Why aren't podcasts just another genre of music? I agree about the mixed playlists. I have a playlist for Car Talk. It's normally a podcast, but some of their "albums" are categorized as comedy. Why can't I put them where I want them?

Thanks!!

This is probably the first godawful change Apple has made to a core function of their product. Someone who does not use the applications and has no idea how the product is used has been tasked with making it into something that even the execrable Zune wouldn't want to be. Truly it is a bit of unthinkable, shortsightned nonsense. We have a Podcast app that can see a playlist, but only the podcasts in it an a Music app that can see the same playlist, but only the non-podcasts in it. And the use is supposed to what.. switch from one ap to another in between files to listen to them in the order they appear in the playlist?

Maybe they hired somone from Microsoft to "engineer" Apple products into complete uselessness? What's next? Two apps for Camera (one fore stills, one for video), then another for B&W? Maybe they'll split Safari into a few dozen apps so that we can see parts of web pages in each of them. Just wonderously bad thinking on this one.

it may have been covered in another post, but i just add the podcast to a music playlist then change the type (get info) to music and they suddenly appear in my playlist. so now i can play music followed by a podcast as i have always done.

I agree that this is complete garbage on Apples part.

My work arround is to not use Itunes Podcast function at all. I use another program to download the podcasts I listen to. I then drag the mp3s into my Iphones playlist within Itunes. This loads them. I then go to the "music" folder and change the attributes so that my Iphone will remember the location in the podcast.

Big nuisance but at least I can listen to a playlist that includes my Podcasts and my music.
