Hi im a newbie here and i recently bought an iphone from a friend (wahh i know i should have bought it legitly but i wasnt paying that price sorry),

I have a 32 GB Black Iphone 4s and theres a problem.

Yesterday i decided i wanted music on my phone and decided to sync my phone to my itunes and computer..

But lets backtrack first... Earlier in the day i decided to plug a (non iphone heaphone into the headphone port) and much to my ssureprise it worked (all ive ever dealt with is blackberry) unplugged the headphones and a few hours later this is where i synced my phone tried to play music an GASP nothing..in the music app the volume nubs are gray and cannot be moved left or right and no sound is being heard.. also when i tried to check to see if my ringer was going up and down it was displaying the little speaker but not the bar that moves. Read the discussions here and it seemed that we've all been screwed now i love my iphone and all its features only phone ive ever wanted but i would love this to be fixed.

I have tried:

Restting all setting

Hard Reset

Restore

Restore from back

Changing everything imaginable in Setting and nothing has worked

Making a voicenote and i actually got sound and my ringer started to work! YAY right.. WRONG

Cleaning it with nail polish removeer

Brushing it with a brush

Using a paperclip and scraping it

*i did find some fluff but it came out*

After a few futile attempts at trying to play videos and games with sound and getting nothing i have decided its time to put my tail inbetween my legs and hope that someone can help.

Im not sure if was the type of headphones that i used or hat but i need help

PLEASE REPLY I NEED MUSIC

I AM ALSO A YOUTUBER AND FILM OFF MY IPHONE AND I NEED TO HEAR WHAT **** I AM TALKING AT THE END OF A VIDEO

THANK YOU

I'm using an iPhone 4S with 7.0.4 connected to an iHome idl91.

1) Sounds are working fine before connect iPhone to the ihome

2) plug it into the Ihome using the USB cord

3) no txt sounds or button sounds.

4) unplug it, sounds work fine

5) plug it back into the ihome, no sounds

Note that when I first connect it the sound volume drops

6) pull up control center from bottom of home screen

7) play a song. Pause song and close center

8) sounds working thru ihome speakers while still plugged into ihome.

9) locked screen, get sound from ihome when txt comes in

10) call iPhone and both iPhone speakers and ihome speakers have sound

Weird. But it works.

OK. LIke everyone here I had sound issues this morning.

1. I have the Iphone 4s.

2. I have had it for a bout 2 years now.

3. I installed some new apps in the past few days.

4. This morning, no music from anything except that phone could ring.

5. Tried resetting - No Good.

This is what I did, not sure which one worked for me but, it is worth a try for you guys:

I deleted the three recently downloaded apps.

I updated all apps. from the App. Store.

I started to clean connector with Rubbing Alcohol and Amazingly I got some intermittent sounds.

I then stuck my charging cable in side the port, and pulled it in and out a few times, hopefully to clean it more.

The sound was still intermittent, and the song would pause whenever I moved the phone.

I went to Settings, Music, and turned "shake to shuffle" ON, it worked better but not perfect.

I then turned "shake to shuffle Off", and Turned "Sound Check" ON.

and this did it for me, my sound is back to normal. I can even turn "Sound Check" Off, and still have music.

I hope this helps someone. If you have any questions, let me know I will try to help.

........Man sorry guys. false Alarm. No sound again after 5 minutes.

It is definitely a hardware problem. Because Playing around with the Dock Connecter, with the Charger plugged in gets me sound.

The phone someone still thinks its connected to the Dock. Meaining, that most likely the two pins that connect together that tell the phone that it is connected to the Dock probably have corrosion, or debris that is connecting them together when the Phone is not on Dock.

Going to pull it apart and see what I can see. I will let you guys know what I come up with.

This is maddening. This has been a huge issue for so many people for so long now. Why hasn't it been fixed after 6 updates?

The problem is that my iphone 4s will randomly stop while I am listening to music or podcasts. I love podcasts and music, and usually listen for several hours a day while I am going about my routine. What I end up doing, is unplugging my headphones, pluggin them back in and pressing play on my headphone mic. The podcast or music will play for 2, 5, 10, or 30 seconds if I'm lucky, then stop again. Again, this is maddening.

Empirically it seems that apple does not care or will not fix problems for older iphone models, because after months and months of complaints and 6 updates it should have been fixed by now.

I suspect that Apple is now creating new software which makes older hardware obsolete, an annoying marketing tactic which I refuse to become a victim of. Goodbye Apple, and **** you.

NO NEED to Delete Apps... nenther reset settings nor restore!

There are some possibilities for sound problems - most of them are really simple:

http://youtu.be/SDf1LDcE95Q

(1min 36sec)

It covers the basics:

  • checking side-switch / mute / "Control Center"
  • volume all up

...and also the worst cases:

  • closing all apps (for rare cases when a single app might render the sound system instable)
  • rebooting the iPad

So, don't get desparete: try the things in the video.

There are people who reported having forgotten an audio-bluetooth connection activated with a turned-off sound-system or speakers... or forgot Air-Play turned on... so be sure you disengage bluetooth and/or airplay.

On the 'hardware side', dirty dock connector (30 pin) can make the iPad 'think' it is connected to external audio - if so, cleaning it with a dry toothbrush can fix. Also, moisture in the headphones connector can make the iPad switch to 'headphones' even without headphones connected, making it silent: check if you can hear things with headphones plugged in - if so, try gently inserting and removing headphones a few times and check if you get sound back to iPad's speakers alone.

Once more: no neet to reset settings, nether restore nor delete your apps - save your time.

I got tired of this issue, having sound almost all time, so I contacted my insurance and ask them to replace my iPhone 4S with a new one. They gave me a refurbished. Guess what? The new/refurbished one has the exact same issue. Don't waste your time cleaning the ports or headphone inputs, the issue is a software issue. Should we all but an iPhone 5? Maybe that fixes the issue.

All these crazy things saying "Clean this Clean that", "Turn this switch off then turn it on" BLA, BLA, BLA.......Sorry but I'm over this whole mess already.

APPLE FIX OUR FREAKING PHONES !!!! WE PAID YOU FOR A PRODUCT THAT WORKED UNTIL YOUR MANDATORY UPDATE DESTROYED THE USAGE OF OUR PHONES MAIN FEATURES i.e THE SOUND !!!!

THIS IS SUCH CRAP! 😠😠😠

YOUR UPDATE BROKE THEM AND NO UPDATE SINCE HAS FIXED THEM!!!

I went to the Att store they said, "there is nothing that can be done no cleaning, no settings, no adjustments no nothing."😢

If Apple don't come thru and fix them SOON..... I will never purchase another Apple product again and will be an advocate against them any chance I get.⚠⚠⚠

Updated my 4S to 7.1 today (I know, i hesitated for about a month just to be sure) and as many ppl on here had the same "NO SOUND" issue where i couldn't control the volume bar for anything. I tried ALL the suggestions found on different forums including the Apple one: Tooth brush with alcohol on dock connecter & earplug jack, blowing into it nintendo style, reset to factory settigns then restoring the last update, hard-pressing right beside the Home button for 20 seconds, pretty much all i could find.

THIS IS HOW I FIXED IT:

I was watching a video to earn free credits for a talk app. and when I plugged the phone into the a/c jack directly as the video was playing. the sound popped right back up. I had it plugged into the laptop the whole time and didn't figure to do it firsthand, doh! Hopefully this might save someone the 2 hours it took me to fix it -_-

**UPDATE**

This has nothing to do with mistreating my 4S, as it was fine overnight but the moment i used my earphones today, the same thing started happening again.

APPLE, FIX THIS ASAP!! THE WHOLE POINT OF A MULTITASKING DEVICE IS TO BE ABLE TO SWITCH FROM EARPHONES>MUSIC, TO CALLS WITHOUT HAVING TO DEAL WITH THESE ISSUES. THIS IS SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO THE EVERYDAY USAGE WHICH I'M SURE MANY USERS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT AND IF IT'S NOT FIXED BEFORE THE SUMMERTIME THEN I'M SWITCHING TO ANDROID!! 😠⚠
