Extreme battery drain in IOS 7- iPad Mini Unusable after Upgrade

I updated my iPad Mini Wifi (32GB) to IOS 7 and within a few hours the battery had dropped from 99% to 5% at which point it turned itself off, stopping all running applications I recharged it overnight and unplugged it at at 7 AM and by 5 PM it was down to 28%. I was not doing anything with it at all. It was asleep all day doing absolutely nothing.

Prior to the installation of IOS 7 its battery life was excellent. Now the device is unusable.

I have also updated an iPad New Model (3) and an iPhone 5. Battery usage on both is normal.

I tried using the Mini while it was connected to its Apple OEM charger and it started going backwards. It went from 34% to 32% in a couple of minutes of use. It's barely charging with the cover closed and the screen off. Something is draining the battery almost as fast as the charger can fill it.

Does anyone have a fix for this that does not involve turning it into a brick by disabling all the radios and applications?

In Settings, turn on Airplane mode, then reset your device by holding Power + Home button 15 seconds until you see the Apple logo. Power back on, then turn off Airplane mode.

Here's what worked for us with our iPad Mini battery drainage problem. It would drain quickly while using during the day, and it would drain overnight from 70+% to zero.

We followed many different ideas, then I found this combination finally worked...

(1) Change Settings, General, Auto-Lock to 2 minutes.

(2) In Settings, iCloud, turn everything off. All syncing, backups, etc.

Auto-lock appears to have a far reaching effect on other settings and you need to pay attention to this wording as you're looking through the various Settings options.

However, the above 2 setting adjustments stopped our battery from draining overnight. Once you get the battery back under control, then you can start turning settings back on, one per day, and monitor the results.

Apple did a huge disservice to the users by changing existing settings during the upgrade and turning on new settings (like iCloud?) with the upgrade.

iPhone 4S, ipad 3 same problem. Battery draining as I look at it. Charger can hardly keep up. No apps running and I can watch the charge drop. Tried all the usual remedies. Frankly I am annoyed at even having to do so. Apple should send a note to all users apologizing for another update screw up and giving us an idea of when a fix will be available. They are becoming more line Microsoft every day. Unacceptable.

Same hare. I hate using my ipad mini now, non retina. Ios 6 was on my mini when I bought over a year ago. The battery would last days!! It was crazy! I'm just so sick of these updates but not one has fixed the battery drain issue!

I think some people just live with it? But I'm sick of watching my battery go down every min! If I can find a better mini tablet I would switch! I'm not a fan of Android, and dislike google so much!

Please fix the battery! Or tell the truth that you don't have a clue what's causing some idevices to drain so fast!

Do something! Anything! Also stop thinking the iPhone has to be your number priority! People still have/ buy iPads and iPod touch! What about the ipad!

Are you using the non retina mini? I was reading reviews that the battery problem was better? This is not good! Why can't Apple fix the battery problem!? All that money people spend you want a working tablet or phone. I'm just sick of it! Sorry ios 7.1.1 didn't fix your battery problem.

Guess I won't be upgrading again!! Thanks Apple. Keep up the good work. I'm going for cheaper tablets. Save more money! Wish Apple would admit the battery problem has plagued iPads, iPod touch and iPhones for years now! Every update makes the battery worse! Stop saying 10 hour battery life.

My ipad 2 and ipad mini would last for 14 to 16 hours. Now I'm lucky to get 9 hours.

Some people say Apple doesn't read these forums. I think Apple reads these forums. People are more upset about a small caller I d pic...lol I think the battery is a main issue and NEEDS to be fixed! Such a shame. But I won't spend my money on any Apple products no more. Ios 7 was a big mistake! My son is still on ios 6.0.1 and his ipad 2 rocks!

Thanks Apple for making ios 7. I could careless about the icons, it's my battery that has gone down hill. Along with the slow keyboard. I use my computer more now... Not fair!!

i'm suffering from the same thing, but mine seems much worse, i charge my mini it quickly goes from 20% to 100% within minutes, it shuts off in the middle of doing things, the only way its usable is when its plug to my imac or the charger, other wise it has less then an hour of usage it seems before it suddenly shuts itself off telling me the battery is without power

i've done every single troubleshooting option everyone else has pointed too and nothing helps, this only started since the last couple of update!
