IOS 8 Home button bug

After upgrading to IOS 8 when I press the home button once to exit an app it is registered as a double click and brings me to the multitasking app switcher instead of the home screen. This didn't happen on IOS 7 - I've got an iPhone 5. Any ideas?

So after struggling with a dodgy operating system / home button for the last month, apple has finally fixed this incredibly annoying issue with IOS 8.1 and my phone is finally back to normal. I’m surprised my home button still works after the amount of times I’ve had to press it over the last month with it registering double clicks or not registering a click at all.

I am amazed and appalled at the length of time I’ve had to put up with this issue. What makes it even more annoying is that they took away my ability to revert back to IOS7 while they were fixing all the bugs with IOS 8. You shouldn’t release something that’s half finished and doesn’t work properly in the first place, but if you do – for goodness sake at least give people the option to revert back to something that works until you fix it! Absolutely terrible customer service Mr Apple. I’m out.

No sign of the problem so it appears to have been fixed by iOs 8.1. While that's a relief, there are some pretty disappointing aspects as well, some of which you pointed out. A lot of people went to a lot of unnecessary trouble and expense (eg. replacing home buttons), which could have been avoided if Apple had simply admitted there was a problem and asked us to be patient for a while longer. I agree it was appalling customer service, especially for a company that has made a lot out of brand loyalty.

yes that's something that I want to add now that 8.1 fixed the home button issue on non-touch ID devices running iOS8. Ok fine now it's fixed, BUT IT'S BEEN A WHOLE MONTH ! Apple should have released an emergency patch immediately !! ... i.e. as soon as the bug was reported, and it's been reported by tens and tens of people immediately.

Instead of that Apple preferred to let people go to the Apple Store to check the hardware during weeks and weeks. I always knew that the OS was faulty so I didn't bother. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

This, added to the glitches in iCloud Drive a few weeks ago ... and now the availability of an unstable and buggy iCloud Photo Library ... what's next?

I totally agree...lot of people changed their home button paying up to 80€!! And finally its clearly a software problem!!

To all people here who paid for changing the home button if i would be you i would claim the costs showing this thread.

Hopefully they pay you the money back...

Until now i was never afraid of doing an update, i believed in Apple costumer service. Now we know we cannot trust.

Like it's not even posible to go back...

The worst, i claimed in Apple bug reporter, the telefon hotline but until now nobody asked me if my phone is ok now.

Nobody never recognized that there is a "homebutton bug" in iOS8...This is really a no go...I hope they will improve this again..

I changed to Apple to save time, but this time calculating useless "restores" of my phone i can buy a android phone as well...

This is going to sound crazy, but I fixed the problem by taking a screen shot. Running iOS 8.1.3, my home button was completely unresponsive. I was going to try a reset and couldn't remember the key combination, and took a screen shot (power + home button) by accident. Now the home button works as it should! It's a bit leggy, but at least it works. Hopefully this will do the trick for you.
