I cannot believe we are still waiting for a fix on this, nearly 8 weeks after the release of Sonoma.

It makes me wonder just how much testing goes into new releases.

Although Screen Sharing works on my local network about 70% of the time the mouse gets sticky. By sticky I mean a click on something in the remote window doesn’t register until I move the mouse, same thing for menus. I have to close the remote window & log back in to eliminate the sticky mouse problem but the sticky mouse problem returns if I leave the remote window open for a few minutes.

I was able to get it to work by going to: Sys prefs>General>Sharing>Advanced
Enable the three options, 'Remote Mgmt', 'Remote Login', 'Remote App Scripting'
Select the round "I" for each choice and specifically add the user account you want to connect.

Don't know if enabling the last option, 'Remote App Scripting' was necessary, but this use to be called:
'Remote Apple Events' so I enabled it anyway.

Hope this helps someone

Thanks for sharing, and I do hope it helps others. I am connected to a remote Mac Studio using Screen Sharing, and I do NOT have either Remote Management or Remote Application Scripting turned on. I usually do have Remote Login, but I also tried turning it off, and Screen Sharing still works...

FWIW, I am connecting from my local Intel MBP to a remote Mac Studio, both running Sonoma 14.1.1.

I am running Sonoma 14.2.1 on a M2 Mac Mini and when I went to System Settings/General/Sharing and tried to turn on Screen Sharing (which was ghosted out) I got the message "Screen Sharing is being controlled by Remote Management. So I went to Remote management (on that same screen) and turned OFF Remote Management. This unghosted Screen Sharing so I turned ON Screen Sharing. And now my iMac is able to screen share the mini's screen and control the Mac Mini !!! Hooray!!!

So what the **** is Remote Management and WHY is it defaulted to being ON?

Screen sharing is also not working on my 2023 MacBook Pro 14" Apple M2 Max, running MacOS 14.1.1 (23B81)

I am trying to screen share to a Sanyo 65" Roku TV.

My Roku TV just shows a black screen, while my MacBook re-adjusts itself for mirroring the display or using the Roku TV as a separate external display.

Screen sharing worked on my older 2020 MacBook Pro 15" Intel. And it worked on my Windows PC.

And I have been using Screen Sharing without an issue for every point release of Sonoma thru 14.4.1 with several other Macs running different versions of macOS. Some connected via Ethernet, and most via Wi-Fi 5/6. Same network segment. I have dragged and dropped the /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/Screen Sharing app to my Dock and locked it there on the receiving Mac.

I regularly connect using Screen Sharing, from my mac at home to the mac at my workplace, and it is working smoothly with Sonoma: I just connect to my office network using VPN, and then use screen sharing to control the Mac Studio at work from my home MBP.

I have not tried doing this from Messages, though, as it would requiring someone on the other side to test, and all the potential participants have older macs, so no Sonoma on their side at least.

Sonoma 14.1 Update seems to have fixed the connection Authentication issue but the Latency issue still remains.

Audio:

Severe echo when trying to speak to the person using the remote Mac

Controlling Remote Mac

Severe Lag when trying to control other people's Mac.

Open Finder for example, then try to move the window and it can take up to 4 minutes before I see it move.

** I tried the same on Zoom and both issues mentioned above work 100%, with No Lag, No echo

Me Too!

I have a 2020 Intel MacBook AIr and an M1 Mac Mini.

When I screen share from the MacBook to the Mini, it will connect but the mouse cursor eventually disappears and you can't do anything except quit screen sharing.

They when you try to connect again, it has a connection failure.

The only way to get a connection again is to toggle screen sharing on and off on the Mac Mini.

I am on Sonoma 14.1

Thanks Luis, yes it has to do with an external display. I tried screen sharing from my LG external screen with several Laptop users (Macbook Air, Macbook Pro). No success, no matter who invited whom.

Then I tried screen sharing from my Macbook Air screen to the other Laptop users who were also using their laptop screens. Each connection attempt was sucessful!

This might explain why some of you report success (connections via native screens) and other don't (external screen at least by one user).
