My iPhone 12 all of a sudden couldn’t focus the camera. At the same time, when using the camera, it makes a scratching electric sound in short pulses. Hard restart will not solve the issue. Is this a known problem and how do you fix it?

Same issue here. It only happens with main rear standard lens. Front camera, an ultra wide lens (0.5x zoom out) work well.
this issue started happening to me too and i WOULD believe it was a problem of me dropping my phone and something breaking loose BUT why are there so many other people here in the past month with my same phone having this same issue after this was posted a year ago? this makes me believe it’s a software issue and Apple should do something about it. i don’t want to take it to the Apple Store because they’re just going to tell me it’s broken and i need a new one like they did with my laptop that ended up not even being broken. How is everyone’s iPhone 12 just happening to do this all within weeks of each other?
I’m having the same issue and I’m ready to throw the iPhone against the wall please help by telling me if you found a solution to the problem. Thank you 🤓
Thanks for your answer, but it didn’t solve the issue. I have been listening more closely to the “noise” and I have come to the conclusion that the camera is frantically trying to focus and refocus thus making the intermittent scratching sounds. The picture captured is out of focus and sometimes flowing like under water regardless of mode - video, slow motion, panorama etc.

It feels like something is short circuiting inside but its not able to focus at all. Please let me know if anyone got a solution or got to know the price of getting this fixed.
my back camera works it doesn’t focus out and sometimes when i’m on the back camera it starts to shake and make a weird noise but it won’t go away even with the reset
I’m having the same issue the last week or two probably. Has anyone come up with a way to fix this, aside from getting a new phone?
I got this issue a week before ! I use protective case to protect both my camera and phone! Did not drop my phone even once !! I got freaked out when I heard the short circuit like sound whenever I open my camera! After doing my research I came to know that this problem is happening in majority of iphone 12s. Apple please give us a solution!
I went to Apple and was advised the camera needs to be replaced. Since I have a small crack on the screen they said the screen would need replacing too. And the battery.
so I ended buying a new iPhone, but I feel like I’m being scammed. When testing the front camera didn’t work well either.
Now even thinking of buying a new phone..this is not so right Its definitely a software glitch
I’m pretty sure this is a software problem. I installed a different camera app from the App Store and the camera stopped doing it with that app. If I use the default iOS camera it does it. If I use the 3rd party app, it doesn’t.
I am so ****** off..none of the suggested solitions seens to be working. Just wondering why Apple is keeping silent on the issue
I am having the same issue iphone mini 12 purchased after launch (2020).
The camera works okay at focus under 1x. I heard the noise a few times but it doesn't happen always.
