Roocarl, all I can say is that the solution offered by Lincizy, with the helpful addition by jmwils1, indeed works. Unfortunately, Apple support do not seem to be familiar with it. I only found this thread via desperate googling one day too late. The initial advice from Apple support was to switch off the MacBook (by holding down the power button) when the Realtek audio driver installation froze, which, of course, was exactly what Lincizy warns us not to do.

Well, it was too late for me (MacBook 12 Retina here), so I was forced to run a full circle around to the same place, only after reinstalling Windows 10 with much trouble, and losing several hours over it. (Because it's impossible to have the MacBook charged, as the second Windows 10 installation for some reason required from me, and connected to a flash drive at the same time with the single provided USB-C cable.) Then, I was back to the original issue: Realtek audio driver installation once again froze on me just like the first time, but this time, I followed the solution brought by Lincizy, and everything went smoothly after that.

I feel dense but I'm just not getting this. I'm not a windows guy, but I need to use it.

I had Windows 7 running via bootcamp with no problems. I followed the prompts to upgrade to windows 10 and started to have WiFi disconnects. I ran Apple Software Update, and I was offered the Boot Camp 6 Update for Windows 10. When I install it, over a gig worth of files download, and a simple "Installing" dialog appears. The screen blinks a couple of times, then I get a "Windows installer has stopped working, close the program" box.

I see nothing to indicate it is hanging at Realtek drivers.

Nonetheless, I search c: for Realtek and found a RealTekSetup. I run it. I go to task manager and I force it to quit when it prompts me to restart. Nothing additional happens with the Apple Software Update.

I just don't see what is being described in this article.

If I force Apple Software Update to quit, it won't offer me Boot Camp 6 for Windows 10 again unless I go into Windows 10 settings, Apps, and choose to reinstall the Apple Application Support (64-bit) item, which further prompts to revert the aborted installation (presumably the one that failed from Apple Software Update.

I appreciate any help if you can give it. I'm a bit lost in the woods here. Thanks.

If you upgraded from W7 to W10, check Device Manager for any unknown devices (yellow triangle with exclamation mark). If there are any, you need to apple BC6 Drivers package by running setup.exe in Bootcamp folder (if BC6 drivers came from the BC Assistant) or run Apple Software Update and get BC6 drivers directly on the Windows side. The RealTek driver may not apply to you, because it depends on your specific Mac year/model and whether it contains any such devices. Typically, Macs containing AMD GPUs have RealTek devices, while nVidia GPUs come with Cirrus devices or nVidia's HD Audio hardware.

Getting Closer thanks Loner T i downloaded the support software and tried the method suggested on this thread It worked No stalling on Real tek . I thought thank god finally ! Boot camp then ran successfuly . BUT NO I STILL CANNOT RIGHT CLICK OR SCROLL ON TRACKPAD back to square one ...... arghhhhhhhh

Do you have a Trackpad tab in Control Panel -> Boot Camp? Are you using the original TrackPad, the built-in one or the TrackPad2?

Check the Trackpad setting in the TrackPad. Please see Boot Camp: Set trackpad options for available Trackpad options

I now have right click and scroll

Getting there but Edge has an issue i when i try to close it the edge screen will not close ! The cross in the corner just turns screen white you can type in search bar but nothing comes up and you cannot close it .

At least i feel like I am getting somewhere with the help of Loner :-) just a shame as one problem solved another appears .....

Thanks Loner, but when i try downloading support software in my flash drive after downloading some content it says can't download on selected drive. I tried all the other options suggested above its not working, please help.

Try a wired connection instead of a wireless connection. The slower the wireless connection, the more likely it will fail.

I Used Boot Camp 5.1 and it installed just fine

I found a solution, when the installation hangs at realtek audio:

1. DO NOT turn it off

2. go to your bootcamp folder, manually install the realtek driver, DO NOT restart

3. after manully setup, open Task Manage, and kill the "RealtekSetup" process

4. bootcamp will skip the Realte, and have fun

As others have have noted though, this solution is a little vague for a few things. The main thing is that the Realtek driver installer is located in the Bootcamp folder in the installer volume, usually a USB drive these days.
