Photos for Mac can show us the locations of photos on a map, but only with thumbnails of the photos as markers. If we have many photos, a marker pin would be more convenient. This way you can create a map with markers for all places where you have been.

The following Automator workflow (from https://photosautomation.com) will let you reveal the photos you select in Photos as pins on a map. You need at least Photos 1.1 on MacOS X 10.11 El Capitan.

  • Launch Automator and select to create a new workflow. Set the workflow to receive photos in the Photos.app.
  • Type "Photos" into the search field.
  • Drag an Action "Get selected Photos Items" into the workflow pane.
  • Drag an Action "Show on Maps" into the workflow pane.

Select a few photos in Photos and click the Run button in Automator. The Maps should now open and show you red pins at the locations of the selected photos.

Save the service as a workflow for future use.

As an added bonus you can use the pins on the map to copy the precise locations between photos in Photos. This is described here: How to copy a GPS location from one photo… - Apple Community
