How to copy a GPS location from one photo to other photos using Apple's Maps in Photos for Mac
The hybrid view in Apple's Maps is much more detailed than the tiny snippets in the Info panel Photos. If we want to add a location to a photo, it is easier to do it in the Maps.app than directly in Photos.
And we can use the maps to copy a location from one photo to other photos.
- First reveal the photo with the embedded GPS tags on Apple's Maps using the Automator workflow described here: Photos for Mac: How to view the Locations of Photos as Pins in the Maps.app
- This will give us a red pin on the Map.
To copy the location of a photo from the Map you need a purple pin and not a red pin. Do the following.
- Ctrl-click or right-click directly beside the red pin and select "Drop Pin".
- You should now see a dropped pin with a purple head.
- Select the purple pin and click the (i) button in the banner "Marked location" of the pin. Scroll up in the panel that opens to see the GPS coordinates. The panel will show the latitude and longitude in degrees.
- You cannot select the GPS coordinates to copy and paste them separately, but you can select the complete contents of the panel with ⌘A.
- Click into the panel, enter ⌘A, then ⌘C. The location has been saved to the clipboard.
- Now select all photos at once in Photos, that should have the same location assigned.
- Enter ⌘I to open the Info, then paste this copied location into the location field for the selected photos.
All selected photos will now have the pasted location.
