Welcome to my User Tip.

One of our regulars here created a nifty little program to give us more experienced users a insight into your Mac and what's going on with it.

What you do is run this little program and paste the results to a forum post and ask others to assist.

The program will strip out personal data, but look it over to make sure anyway.

10.8 users may have to head to System Preferences > Security > General and "Allow Downloads from Anywhere" temporarily to accept software from the web or they can hold Control key or right clicking on the Etresoft software to run it.

It doens't need to be installed or uses the Admin password, so you can delete it afterwards if you wish by dragging it to the Trash can.
