Upgraded to iTunes 10.4 & can not rearrange music anymore

I have been reading all over the web about how some are having problems with iTunes. Particularly the changing music list around in a playlist.

I was prompted to upgrade iTunes and now some features have disappeared.

My main problem is that I can not longer rearrange the songs my playlists. The "grab & drop" feature seems to be gone or disabled.

Some other blogs and help sites have suggested:

• Turning off a shuffle feature <<< Shuffle is not a feature that is indicated on any of my playlists. Checked each playlist anyway.>>>

• Clicking in the left top are of the bar (with the check symbole, name, time, artist, etc...) <<<Clicking the number order just makes the list order from 1- 50 go backwards from 50 to 1. Or changing Name or Artist (or such) just changes the order per that criteria.>>>

• Right clicking (or holding the control button). <<<Right clicking shows a drop down menu where you can manually Add to another playlist" option, but no unlocking any type of "grab & drop" feature.>>>

I was able to add music to my playlists, but after than nothing.

I tried created a new playlist and carefully adding music. This way *****!

The only drag I can do is taking a playlist (in the left side bar) and placing it in a playlists folder. But in Smart Playlists or regular ones, all music order is permanent, it seems.

This can NOT be the future for itunes! Anyone else having this problem and can offer some suggestions?

Well, other than disabling iTunes and using an earlier version. 🙂

You are rignt. Clicking the arrow in that column reverses the order. However, while that column is selected, and only when that column is selected, you can drag your songs into any order you like. I am using iTunes 10.4 and it works fine.

I am having the same issues as Solomon Grundy. I have tried just about everything and nothing seems to work. I am still unable to grab a song and move it to any playlist or rearrange a playlist order. Since this function is no long available, I can not upload purchased song to my iPod. This is a real problem!
I've called apple support and have a scheduled appointment for them to call me.
Hardware: 27" iMac 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
OS X: 10.6.8
iTunes: 10.4
iPod Classic: Software version 1.3
I have read several people are experiencing this same issue – but not everyone. So it must be a bug/glitch and needs to be corrected.
If I am unable to load songs from iTunes to my iPod or rearrange playlists – what is the point?
Watching the video for iTunes 10.4 shows the user being able to move music around just as we always have been able to.
So something is wrong and apple needs to address this quickly.

@ Jim VanLeeuwen-

That second area you get that points to the right, do you have to activate that? I'm only getting the small arrow that points up & down. Are you on OS Lion, is that the issue you think?

@ whatneck-

I am on Tiger using a wacom tablet, but I assume that shouldn't matter. Everything has been fine until I upgraded iTunes.

@ Jim VanLeeuwen-

Maybe I am on Leopard. "About this Mac" shows OS X 10.6.8. Is that Leopard??

Anywho- thanks for ur info. I'll have to purchase Lion and hopefully that will fix everything....

for now (until the next upgrade anyway). 😁

Again thanks for the quick responses every1. Got my fingers crossed.

Will post if the problem is fixed.

OK, so it appears that some of my old playlists won't allow the shifting of play order, but if I make a new playlist there's no problem. Furthermore, some of the old playlists don't have the issue at all. I wonder for anyone else having this issue if they're able to change the play order on new playlists.

Interesting stuff. (Using 24" iMac, 2.93 GHz, OS 10.6.8). I've been searching for an answer to this! After upgrading to iTunes 10.4 I was then unable to simply drag & drop songs to a playlist. I saw the question about whether someone was using a Wacom or not, so I plugged in a mouse (in conjunction with my Wacom) to test the drag & drop...

Wacom? No.

Mouse? Yes.

Weird bug. Hope Apple fixes it soon. I'd never have guessed there'd be that kind of a difference between the tablet/mouse.

Same problem for me ! A new bug with Wacom, thank you Wacom and iTunes team.

Sorry guys but Wacom never fix their bugs.

Take a look : http://forum.wacom.eu/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5262

From November 2010, they never fix the scrolling bug introduced with iTunes 10.1

Wacom say it's Apple.
Apple say it's Wacom.
And nobody fix the bug.

Wacom, professionnal products ? No.
