iPhone 5 wifi issues
My iPhone 5 connects to wifi networks and remembers them, but receives absolutely zero data through the network. LTE and 3G no problem... Off to the repair shop (after 3 hours of ownership...) or any ideas??

i totally agree with you if its a software issue; sit tight and wait for the update. However, in my case it was hardware. Both Apple Care and the Genius Bar agreed it was a hardware issue and the unit needed to be replaced. They will replace a hardware issue...
I didnt to undermine your post just stated my experience with Apple.
Well, my wifi issues, along with my battery issues are both solved. I'll share what steps I took so as to possibly help if I'm offering something that hasn't been covered in this thread (I stopped reading at 32 pages).
First, I went to Apple, my wifi connected right up to their network, all the guy did was reset the network settings (something I'd already done) and told me to power cycle the router and modem (something else I'd already done), so in reality, the issue just went away. When I got home, I walked up the street to an open connect I knew of, and it connected right up to it. When I got into my house, it connected right up and runs fine.
Some other things I've done since then, for starters, I upgraded the firmware to my router, and I also upped the max # of DHCP connections to 4. previously, I just had my computer and phone, but since then my cable box is wifi, and, at the time I got the 5, I also had my 4 in the room with wifi on, hence, on the network, so I think my issue was related to max DHCP connections allowed since I had 4 going on network set for a max of 2. Real Duh Moment for me there, but I thought I'd throw that out there as a possible setting to check.
As far as the battery issue goes, a geo fence got "stuck" and my location services stayed on beyond where it sould have from a reminder I had set. I turned off location services for reminders for a while, it ended, and then my battery started getting though the entire day with about 40 percent reserve.
Hope that helps.
They will replace it if you make enough of a fuss.
Its not proven that its a software issue.
I was able to stand in the store with two iphone 5's and show how 'faulty' my signal was.
They gave me a reservation for a replacement as soon as the shipment arrives.
ALSO - I would really take anything a genuis tells you with a rather large grain of salt. They are nothing more than glorified customer support workers with a clever name drummed up by HR to make the role less demoralising.
Apple's so called 'Genuis' workers would probably be working somewhere else if they actually were genuis.
I had an issue where an ipod was crashing my mac as soon as it was plugged in.
The 'genuis' basically told me that i had to buy a new ipod.
Turns out it was corrupt software on the device and I managed to fix it myself by pugging it into a windows machine... which for some reason didn't crash and allowed me to do a restore... so yeah.... genuis who told me I needed to spend another $400 on a problem that I eventually managed to fix myself and was software based.
This has to be software related. Both of my devices my 5 and 4s can be signed in on my NETGEAR router and they stay on for a bit and drop off. Neither will rejoin without the password entered again!!!!!!!!!!! y 4s worked fine on this same wifi prior to update to OS6
In my previous example it was software... and i was told to replace the unit at my own cost.
I refuse to believe THIS issue is just software... and since the cost is on Apple I'm happy to recieve as many replacement units as it takes to get a set that works to a standard I consider to be worth the money I paid for it. That is my right as a consumer in the country I live in.
How can an identical set (other than case colour - white) have a stronger and constant signal AND pick up far more wifi signals from the exact same location.
My set fluctuates its signal, drops connection.
An identical set sitting right next to it has perfect connection with a steady signal.
Also - many people here have reported the wifi isue is resolved ONCE they recieve a replacement set.
This is NOT software.
Apple are telling people it's software to limit costs of handing out new sets. It's damage control at this point.
They don't want a rush of people to panic when they start to read about these issues in the media and THINK that they have the same problem.
I had problems connecting to my home wifi network (unsecured) but it would auto connect to my work network just fine. Spoke to Apple Care (3) times today and tried resetting the network settings, resetting the router just to have it drop and not auto connect. Finally went into the router settings and changed the router name from linksys to linksys1 and the phone now auto connects and stays on wifi!
All I can assume is that the phone is either seeing (or has seen) another similar network and is "confused". I got to hand it to Apple care for their response to a complaint and patience guiding me on the phone even if the issue is not clear. I hope I'm through this and can stop looking to see if I'm connected or not to Wifi (although I love the LTE speed - I could get used to that all day).
I hope this helps others.
What production wk y'all phones were made in? I just got mine yesterday and mine works perfectly. My phone is production wk 38. It seems like ppl phones who were made earlier before that wk having problems.
It helps at home for sure.
But what if you are on a public wlan.
We can't expect system admins at work or schools to go round and update or change their routers!
The phones should work on all current standards.
I have also got my service provider to wave any data fees for this month since I am forced to use LTE / 3G\
Worth a try for anyone that has this issue.
In the case of a connector not being properly connected then the production week won't matter.
Some of the parts are connected by hand.
Its not down to when it was done. It's down to who did it and how well they did it which makes it harder to track to a batch - since it will be case by case.
it seems to me that Apple is now falling prey to its own success as did HP, Dell, Microsoft and a few other who's demand to mass produce millions of products in a short time... quality control suffers and ultimately the products being produced suffers. Ive owed Apple products since 2006 and as the years have progressed and the demand rises there has been more and more issues with every production year. Apple needs to slow down a bit... Ive already come to expect issue with every new iphone produced and ive had them all!
Hi Everyone,
i have posted on the IPAD forum and now i'll post it here on the Iphone 4s with IOS6 upgrade
Go to Settings, General, About
Scroll down till you see Modem Firmware
Reply Back with your Modem Firmware
Modem Firmware: 04.12.02
If your Modem Firmware is LESS than the above, then you have the same problem as myself and many others with Wireless Connectivity issues to WAP's
It is my understanding, unless im proven wrong by anyone with my above findings, this can only be fixed by APPLE. I have reported this as a BUG
i am having wifi issue but it connects to every wifi network normally but the trouble is that i cant get the download speed in 500 tries only 2 to 3 three times i get proper download speed so apple should realse its new software bug update soon it cant be hardware trouble coz i can connect with every security key to wifi but damm the download speed its worse than the edge network how can apple cant find any bug please give us software update soon
Shannon, that firmware is for the iPhone 4 and 4S. Mine is the same as yours and my iPhone 4 has NO ISSUES.
My iPhone 5 has issues and is a totally different model and firmware. I believe you are scaring a lot of iPhone5 users with this post. I just believe it belongs to iPhone 4 users only as iPhone 5 is a totally different firmware revision.
Thank you for the tip and bringing it to Apple. Hope they bring out a revision soon. 😀
Helllo
Just to update my issue / status.
I was able to collect my replacement black 64gb iphone 5 handset today and the wifi on the new model is working perfectly now.
Nice strong consistant signal exactly as it should have been. No drops. Fast downloads.
So - In my instance (and i'm sure many others) it was clearly a hardware issue.
Don't let apple fob you off with 'wait for an update'. The longer you wait the less time you will have to exchange and i promise that once the 'update' hits and people realise their handsets are still faulty - the stock will run out.
I went into apple store today, said im experiancing bad wifi they tested in store 30mbps im like ***, why am i getting so bad at home. they tested the phone and it was all within their specifications... no new phone 😟 i get home test again, SLOWW!!!!
