Proxy not recognized after mavericks updrade?

I have just upgraded my Macbook Air from OS X Lion to OS X Maverick two days ago. Everything working fine except the proxy setting in network is not picked up by any other application. As a result, I cannot connect to App Store/iTunes/iCloud. All of them shows, computer not connected to internet. Safari works fine for local addresses that do not need proxies but freezes for external sites requiring proxies. The firefox browser works for everything. If I open app store, it keeps rotating between two pop ups, one for proxy authentication and one for app store sign in. It becomes an infinite loop.

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

This is an update. I have done a clean installation by formatting the hard drive but the problem still persists. A few other observations:

1. It is only the "https://" proxy setting that no application is picking up. As a result, some websites that use "http://" are loading.

2. Use of "Squidman" 3.5, as suggested in one other forum does not eliminate the problem.

It really seems like a "bug" in the OS. Unless some solution is forthcoming, we are stuck. My Airbook originally came with Lion OS X installed. Unfortunately, the backup with OS X Lion got corrupt and I do not have a bootable stick or DVD. Can someone help me with this. Where I can get it. Even Mountain lion will do. They appear to be not available in the app store anymore. it will really be unfortunate if I have to buy it again.

I'm having the same issue with my work iMac. We use Outlook as an email client and if I select ANY proxy settings, email won't connect to our network. Regardless if proxy settings are selected or not, I cannot access the internet, whether it be Safari, Firefox or Chrome. Nor can I access the App Store, so if and when an update does come, I'm not sure how I'll be able to download it. I've been hopping on other computers for internet access for 3 full days now, and our IT department are at a complete loss.

Lesson learned...I will not be updating my home iMac or Macbook Pro, nor will I be so quick to download any updates in the future until the bugs have been worked out. UGH!

Another information if it helps to pin down the problem:

My colleagues got a lot of (about 30) MacBook Air, iMac and MacBook Pro. All came with Mountain Lion preinstalled. The problem seems to appear only with MacBook Air and iMac. Everything is running fine with MacBook Pro. This makes me think, the hardware architecture also has something to do with it.

I have a macbookpro and I have the same issue.

Althought the problem is intermittent.. It works for a while and then just stops forwarding packets to the configured proxy even tho it was a currently running session.

Is there a way to fill a bug report somewhere?

Well, I sort of found a solution. The problem is, if you set proxy in Safari/Network Preferences, it was not being picked up by other applications. So, I did the following:

1. A clean installation from a bootable stick I made after downloading Maverick OS X.

2. Our institute has a FortiGate firewall. Since, local sites do not need a proxy, I logged into the proxy server through safari and kept the window alive. This became a direct internet access.

3. Everything was up and running. I have setup iCloud, did software updates (there were two important firmware update), downloaded apps.

So, my safari runs with no proxies set up. Whenever I need direct internet access, I log into the proxy server through the FortiGate firewall. I use Firefox for other browsing needs, ftp etc. So far, all applications worked. I will put an update if something hangs.

I would still like to see the bug fixed soon in an update of Safari.

Hello,

I think I solved the issue. Open Keychain, find stored credentials for your proxy server (just write e. g. your proxy server name into a search field) and Copy these credentials (usually 2 records - HTTPS, HTTP) from Login keychain into a System keychain. It's usefull to keep credentials in both (login and system) keychains. If you just move credentials, then the some apps asks your for admin password when using proxy server. Now it works fine and no more problems with Safari, Outlook, etc.

I hope it helps,

I have upgraded a Mac Book pro to OS 10.9. The device is used on a network which has a proxy server in place. Before the upgrade to 10.9 Safari worked fine and all other Macs running 10.8 or less (about 200 of them) work OK. Since carrying out the upgrade Safari does not connect, it just hangs with no error messages. I have loaded Chrome and using the same proxy settings that are in Safari it works fine. I have worked my way through all the suggestions/fixes in this thread without success apart from a clean installation as there must be an easier solution.

i refer to solution from kremik, it also work for me

1. open the key chain

2. at key chain > login

3. you should able to see your http and https proxy key chain with your domain and id

4. copy both key chain

5. go to system (at the bottom)

6. paste it here

7. you should able to browse internet via safari now.
