iPhone 6s sound problems after IOS 10

Hello. I am experiencing serious sound problems with my iPhone after upgrading to IOS 10. When I am trying to make a call, I do not have sound in my iPhone, neither in the earpods. Of course, at that moment, neither my caller can hear me. But when I turn on the speaker and then turn it off, things go well and I do have sound. I decided to send my iPhone to the authorised service and check if there is a hardware problem with the sound. They replied that there is no hardware problem with the device and that they have checked it thoroughly. Indeed, when I reset all settings back to default, the problem disappears for about 2 or 3 days and then it does come back. The technicians concluded that this is a software problem and that Apple is aware about that.

What are you proposing? How long will I wait for an update that will resolve this problem which renders the device disfunctional?

Same issue here.

Background:

- 90% of my phone use is with Apple earpods with mic. The standard ones.

- Heavy iPhone user: work and leisure tool; calls, music, podcast, messages, video...

Example:

1: you're listening to a podcast, one episode finishes, the next one is supposed to start playing but, oh, you can't hear it.

2: you try to send a voice message in Telegram or Whatsapp but it does not record.

3: you're listening to a song in Spotify, receive a call -interrupting the song- but you can't hear the caller.

And so on...

History:

1. In my first visit to the Official Tech store they cleaned the sound jack: problem eventually reappeared

2. Then we did hard reset: problem eventually reappeared.

3. Then we erased all and uploaded backup from iTunes via PC: problem eventually reappeared

4. Then they kept my phone for 10 days and sent it to service, said there was no problem. I immediately proceeded to set it up as a New Phone, downloading apps from scracth: problem eventually reappeared

5. Then Apple International sent me a new phone (I sent the old one to them) and I did iCloud backup from step 4, it has never been plugged to my PC: problem eventually reappeared.

More:

- I have even used it with and without cover in case it would mess with the mics: problem eventually reappeared

- I have of course all along tried with different pods (all original): problem eventually reappeared

- Restarting the phone used to work but yesterday not even that worked.

I find no pattern and no trigger. All apps are legit of course, nothing dodgy. Problem eventually reappears.

It started in autumn 2016.

It is beyond frustrating.

I hope for a solution. My phone will be out of warranty soon. I will be left with an iPhone that does not work properly. Not cool.

There was a huge thread on this exact problem that was removed a day ago by Apple moderators. Anyway, the symptoms are the same: no call audio and no audio in many apps. Some experience a lack of audio across iOS 10. It seems the problem is only with iOS 10, and is pretty much a software bug. It may have to do with a certain app (IDK which one) or the fact that core apps can be removed in iOS 10. But you can't remove the phone app, so that doesn't explain calls being muted.

Have you tried not using earphones with mics? Use a standard set of mic-less earphones and see if that makes a difference (no mic, no volume controls, only two earbuds and a wire). Also, try setting up your phone as a new phone, without restoring your backup--re-download all apps manually and set them up again (it's worth a shot). How long have you had this backup, and what version of iOS did it start on? If it's from iOS 7-8 or earlier, it might be the backup causing you issues.

Anyway, the fact that the issue occurred on two different phones is alarming.

I too am experiencing audio issues, and have experienced them since iOS 10 came out. For me, my Music app constantly malfunctions. No audio, and tracks start rapidly stopping and starting, and tracks start skipping. It may be caused by one of two things: software, or my earphones with built-in mic. I've been meaning to try a pair of mic-less earphones for a while now, and to test my current earphones with another smartphone, to see if it's the mic causing issues.

I know for sure it's not an iTunes sync issue. It may very well be a software issue that Apple has yet to solve. Luckily for me, audio in all other apps work even if audio stops working in the Music app. Phone calls work perfectly fine, same goes for audio in other apps. But it's the Music (and iTunes Store) app that screws up, along with video, which just freezes whenever I have audio issues.

Hi Sk,

Yes, I have tried with mic-less headphones and also setting up the phone as new downloading manually the apps (no backup, no sync). I think the first problems happened in autumn (Sept, Oct) but I don't remember for sure when. Anyway, since I did set it as a new it cannot be a backup problem.

I am prepared for this thread to disappear, I saved my communication with Apple and my previous post so I keep track and can easily re-post it.

I hope we all get a solution 🙂

i have the exact same problem. they replaced my phone 3 times with new one but the problem exists. i also made a new apple account to one of the phones but the problem wasn't fixed. the apple service just tells me to wait and that there is nothing else that they can do but replacing my phone!!!!!!!! and i have to wait 20 days to give me a new one........... so after 9 years using iPhone i'm having serious thoughts to go to galaxy s8 !!!!!!!!!!!!

i asked them to replace my 6s with the iPhone 7, because the problem started when the iPhone 7 came, but they don't want to do that!!!!!!

by the time that i'm righting this post I'm waiting the repair centre to replace for the 4th time my 6s!!!!!!!

I Had this problem just after the update to ios 10 .

now its solved . Try the following :

1- reset all settings . It only changes your wallpaper, erases your wifi passwords

and , text size and fingerprints .

2: after the reset , try to setup only one fingerprint

and I think that this will solve the problem.

at least it did for me . (When I create 4-5 fingerprints , the problem is there again)

hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply. I tried it and it does not work. I think that the software is not simply contradicting with some other function of the phone, I think it is a general bug problem. Please give Apple some feedback on the problem so that they can figure out a solution for all of us!
