copying an audio clip in iMovie

hi, I have read some of the comments about copying audio clips and I can't seem to find my answer.

I have managed to edit an audio clip that I want to copy and use several times for my film, but when I select it (i.e. make it a darker colour purple) and hit command copy, I get the little "flash" on the word edit which I assume means it has completed the task.

then I take the play head to where I want to place the audio clip I have "copied" and hit "paste" and...nothing! I have read the manual and done what it says as far as I know and...nothing. I have gotten it to work with a video clip but not audio.

any ideas out there?

thanks,
matt

Dragging works best in my opinion. How do you bring the clip into iMovie? If it shows in the Media tab (through iTunes or Garageband), you can just drag it as many times as you want. If you somehow imported it as a clip, hold the Option key while dragging it to the timeline. That way you are making a copy instead of moving it, and you can drag it multiple times.

Hi Matt - tilman's advice is sound, but note that
sometimes iMovie does not correctly place copied
audio clips at the playhead position. They can be
deposited in a quite different place. So just check
that they have not appeared somewhere else on the
Timeline, usually further to the right.

That also can happen with the copy/paste method. You might try looking along the timeline for some stray copied audio clips. 🙂

Sorry, 😟
I thought you meant it only happened when DRAGGING the audio files into the timeline, not when doing copy/paste.

Forgive me for misunderstanding.....have been up far too late doing scanning of ALL of my old snapshots of our families from 1890 ⚠ to where I am right now, at summer of 1976.
When I get to summer of 1979, I will be DONE with scanning. Just have editing of them all, and putting them into iMovies. I have already made iMovies and DVDs of 1979-1995, so I am slowly getting caught up to the present. The earlier years should go faster because I have only photos, no videos.

Anyway, I think the constant whine of the scanner is interfering with my ability to think!

Hi Beverly -
No need to apologise - I was just puzzled, that was all.
What a great family record! And having spent ages on a similar task, scanning, repairing and organising old family photos, and researching family-trees, I know just how exhausting a commitment that can be.
Worth it in the end though!
