Umax Powerlook 2100XL

Hi,

At my office there's a Umax Powerlook 2100XL that worked for awhile, then with this new computer - iMac6,1 running OS X 10.4.9 - had problems.

Upon researching I see that Umax is one brand to stay away from, especially when using macs and people are disgusted with them etc etc...but I have one here and if I can get it to work it would make things much easier...a new scanner might be necessary, but I'd like to try make this one work before doing that.

The previous graphics artist (who I replaced) had tried getting it to work, and had obtained a Firewire-ultra SCSI converter.

What do I need to make it work? I've been looking up drivers for it and think that SilverFast SE (Umax) - 6.5r6 might work. I just can't get the demo to download without verification failing and an invalid checksum.

the quesiton is...is this what I need to make this scanner work?

If so then I can try sort out all the issues arising from trying to download the file as mentioned above. If not, well they still need to be fixed, but I will forget about downloading that specific file.

any help would be appreciated

thanks

AF

Hello,

I just checked the UMAX site. the Powerlook 2100XL isn't compatible with your iMac. For Mac G3 & G4 Towers with OS 10.1 to 10.4.x only.

I think you're out of luck on this. New UMAX scanners start as low as $90.00 and are very compatible with the Mac OS X. Just install the drivers from the disk that comes with the scanner.

Carolyn 🙂
PS.. I've had 4 UMAX scanners over the years from Mac 8.1 to 10.4.9 and nary a problem.

Thanks for the help

I just tried downloading Vuescan from Hamrick.com and verification failed. This is the same thing that was happening when trying to download Silverfast.

It happened awhile ago when I updated to 10.4.9, and after reading up on it I saw I should repair disk, disk permissions, clean cache etc...I did this and the update downloaded fine.

Since then several things have not downloaded...silverfast, vuescan, and some other mac updates...so the problem is now not getting the scanner to work but getting the downloads to.

I tried resoving disk permission and cache corruption before downloading again, but it didn't work, and I can't find the message which explained other things to do...

So now what? I get verification failure and an invalid checksum. What can I do?

thanks again for the help, if I can get this download issue sorted I might be able to use this scanner!
