Wacom Tablet and Dock Problems

I just purchased a Wacom Graphire4 tablet (from Apple) to use with my new (rufurb) iMac running 10.4.9. The tablet is plugged into the keyboard and the pen works with no driver installed (but not added features like pressure and erasure).

I tried to install the driver from the CD and also the latest from the Wacom site (2 different versions). I had the same problem with both versions:

1. When trying to launch an app from the Dock, it brings up Finder with the app highlighted.
2. The keyboard no longer enters text. To log in, I had to go to another user without a password. I couldn't enter the password. No characters would appear when I typed.

After unstalling the driver everything works fine, except I can't access the extra features of the tablet.

I haven't seen anyone else with the problem except one who has it intermittently, but didn't see a solution. Help!

I am having similar problems. The pen works as a mouse, but it does not stay in pen mode long enough when the driver is installed to use it for any type of photo editing. For example, in Fireworks after 2 seconds of drawing, it goes to the Bitmap in the Properties Inspector and stays there. I am unable to switch tools. Even when I try to switch to a mouse, it stays in bitmap and won't change tools. Maybe it is a Fireworks issue? (I can edit pictures using it without the driver. But it doesn't give the options that it would using the Tablet features.)

I can paint in Appleworks.

However, it also locks up the keyboard so I have to restart with the table unplugged to be able to unistall. I have tried all of the drivers available for 10.4.9 from the Wacom site.

Ink also is erractic. And of course, you can't use it without the driver installed......

Grrr! I was excited about this product, but it is the first peripherial for Mac that I have had trouble with in over 12 years! So it seems to be nothing more than an expensive mouse at this point.
