Opinion on Panasonic AG-DVX100B

That is the best DV camera on the market...hands down.

I doubt that the camera he used had ANYTHING to do with why he was nominated. However, it is a darn good camera, and gives an amazing picture.

Probably not but I did watch the trailer online and the shots looking amazing.

This also means that the footage was handled by a very talented colorist as well as a great DP. And having a talented director helps. But don't think that you will get AMAZING images like you saw in that film or trailer just because you have that camera.

A hammer, in the hands of a master carpenter, makes a great house. A hammer, in the hands of someone who just picked it up, makes for a pretty poor house.

And as for the "chopped liver" comment...what that means is that it wasn't the camera that made the documentary great...it was your uncle.

A challenge: try to find one link (just one!) in the internet universe with a single complain about any of the DVX-100 camera serie. And the 100B is the latest ! It's not a camera: it's a legend.

And if I get a camera to replace my GL1...I'll be looking at the DVX-100B. Because in that price range ($3000), I consider that the best camera. Even over the HDV cameras in the same range. If I go HD, I'm gonna need $10k for the HVX-200 and cards. But for $3k...the DVX would by my choice.

I own 3 dvx 100's. They are pretty much all being used on a weekly basis and are complete workhorses! If I were you, I would consider stepping it up a notch and getting an HVX... It has all the DV tape recording functionality of the DVX, but you also get the extra bonus of dvcpro HD on the p2 cards... again- total workhorse!

I've got a 100A My ONLY complaint is with an accessory. I got a century precision optics wide angle adaptor for it. It's great for static shots, but quickly loses focus with any pan, slight zoom, etc.
