10.4.10- Oy! Can I go back to 10.4.9??
1- My pb G4 with Cinema Display (white) and logitech wireless IR keyboard and mouse would not reboot, only a blue screen (reminiscent of ... you know... PCs!). I powered it down- twice. The second time, I removed all the peripherals and rebooted- fine.
2- my Utilities- including Disk Utility- have been moved to Applications "X" folder ( Utilities is now empty, had to use Spotlight to find Disk Utility) Ran disk utility, verify permissions sufficed.
3- Shut down and rebooted with peripherals. The IR device for the keyboard/mouse combo would not power on, no green light. I have a spare IR, so I plugged that in. It lit, but does not function unless it is plugged in directly to the pb, instead of using the Cinema Display (USB version 1) slots in the back- which I had been using for this device since 2003.
So is the problem with my USB ports on the Cinema display something to do with the display itself or the 10.4.10 update? Did the update fry my Cinema display ports or my first IR device and mess with my second or did both IR devices just happen to have a problem after 10.4.10? Or perhaps did the Cinema display port suddenly die coincidentally at the same time as 10.4.10 was installed?
I came to this forum to find out if I am alone, I see others lost printers and their Utilities folders- I wonder if their utilities are also in the new "X" folder in Applications?
I wish I had a dual boot from 10.4.9 as some others here have said, then I'd know if it was the update or the hardware.
I had no issues using 10.4.9. Someone on another thread said their printer peripherals were fine after they installed "cups". What are "cups"? I'd like to go back to 10.4.9 until they figure out all these bugs in 10.4.10 or at least to see if that's the issue with my IR keyboard and mouse device, is there a way to do that?
If 10.4.10 disables the ports on the back of my Cinema display, I can't use the display- because the pb is closed- and the pb USB ports are needed by other devices. If there isn't a way to go back to 10.4.9, Are my only other options wiping the drive and cloning one of my other pbs on 10.4.9 or waiting for them to fix 10.4.10?
Augh. I'm clicking my red sparkly shoes 3 and repeating "There's no OS X like 10.4.9, There's no OS X like 10.4.9, There's no OS X like 10.4.9"
Thanks for any help.
