How to get simple text to speak

Open SimpleText and choose Simpletext Guide from the Help menu. Entering "speak" into the Search text box will bring up an item describing how to get SimpleText to speak selected text. Read and follow those instructions carefully. If they don't help, you can safely conclude that text-to-speech is one of the features SheepShaver can't support on an Intel Mac.

There's no good reason to be running SimpleText in SheepShaver anyway; OS X's TextEdit is better in every respect, and can easily speak your text in an OS that's fully operational on your MacBook.

SimpleText may not be able to use that service when OS 9 is used within SheepShaver, since that is an emulation type program.

However, in case it may be able to, make sure that these items are enabled in Extensions Manager -
• Control Panels -
Sound
Speech
• Extensions -
Sound Manager
Speech Manager

In addition, there should be a folder named Voices in the Extensions folder, with at least one voice file in it.

If you are missing any of those items, re-install the appropriate language (English or Spanish) Speech-To-Text from your OS 9.0.4 Install CD.
