Safari slow, actually all browsers slow

Geez. I'm in ultimate computer frustration. Long story short, I re-installed OS X.4.3 due to a seperate issue. Now, all of my browsers (Safari, IE, and Firefox) are sluggish at best. I typically only use Safari but tried IE and Firefox for diognostic purposes. They start loading, but then stop. Sometimes the finish up but often times they don't. Never quicker than several minutes. I have DSL. I have spent hours on the phone with my service provider and they simply can't find anything wrong on their end. Email and instant Messaging work perfect. It's just the browsers. Does anyone have any ideas? I have reset Safari, cleared the cache, repaired permissions, reset the router and DSL box, unplugged the computer for 15 minutes, ran spyware....all to no avail. I have OS X.4.8 in my hands but don't want to open it if that won't help. Please help me?? Thanks in advance...

Hello Karen,

Ist) You need to understand this_> 10.4.8 & 10.4.3 is the same os X Tiger which is now at version 10.4.10.

You CAN get to 10.4.10 with what you have installed right now 10.4.3
It is a waste of your money to keep 10.4.8 return it.

Click on the Finder (screen) see the Finders menu bar?
Under the Blue Apple->click on About this Mac..... what does read 10.??

There has to be a reason why you can not update

• How did you try to update? Via your Software update,
Under the Blue Apple or on Apple downloads?

• Who is your ISP & how do you connect? Is it ethernet or wirelessly?

Please post back.

Hi Karen,

I had a long discussion with our local server and FINALLY got someone that knew something about Macs. He said that the latest update to OS X was creating these issues for all Mac users using our local server. He gave me a "wrok-around" for the time being....some DNS numbers that cleared up eeverything!

Glad you have a new HD, sure that will not fix a poorly configured network. As I posted to you, which I guess you overlooked to check your DNS #s. It's all there.

Btw for what it's worth I disagree that the issue is with the os x per se, and I do not feel that using DNS numbers is a "work around", so much as a good means to getting a good connection, I have used them for the years I have been using a mac.
