Ipod Shufffle (2nd Gen) Doesn't Work

My Ipod Shuffle (2nd Gen) does not recognize the songs that are loaded on it. Songs appear to be loaded when the Shuffle is docked. When I turn it on after a full charge the green light stays on for about 5 seconds then turns off. When I press play, the colors flash orange and green indicating there are no songs loaded. I've tried all the recommendations and also seen that people with similar problems have not been able to resolve the problem as well. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks.

Having same exact problem! Received this shuffle as a christmas gift and have no receipt. Got frustrated along time ago and put it in my desk drawer. Pulled it out again today after hiding it for months . Have reloaded software today and am currently charging with fingers crossed. Has ANYONE heard back from Apple and got this problem fixed or received a working replacement yet??

Sorry for posting this in the wrong place, but I couldn't figure out how to start a new topic. I have an iPod on the computer for my daughter and then bought my wife the iPod Suffle for Christmas. I cannot figure out how to set up muliple accounts on the same computer to download my wife's music to the Shuffle and my daughter's music to the iPod. Please help. (Also how the heck do you post a new topic?)

Hi,
I had this problem when updating to iTunes 7.4.1.2 and have now fixed it.

The solution is here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499

Note that the real problem was that the Shuffle was appearing in My Computer for a few seconds before disappearing, so it was impossible to apply the fix as described.

To solve this issue, attach your Shuffle, click on it in iTunes, then go to Settings.

On this page go to the bottom and 'enable disk use'. I set the slider so it only used 3MB, so no real loss.

Now disconnect and reconnect the Shuffle. It will now appear in My Computer as a proper removable drive.

You can now apply the fix linked to above. Voila 🙂

hope that helps!
Kenji
