help manually managing music

Apple: Why in God's name would you take away the basic freedoms that all other ipods have from a device that costs double? You screwed us! Fix it pleeeeeeease!!! This oppression will not stand. Rise up fellow customers and burn this fascist system of syncing playlists to the ground! We will not be ignored!

Seriously though, it's ******** and everyone is ****** at you, apple.

OK, I got tired of reading all the posts, so I am not sure someone brought this up:

It's set to sync because if you manually manage/mount disk, you need to manually unmount/disconnect before you can remove the iPhone from the dock.

Why is this important? Well, if manual sync was enabled, just as many people would complain about the following:

"I was copying songs and documents to my iPod's memory, when Charlie called. I forgot it was connected and I picked up the phone to walk around. Now my phone is hosed because something got corrupted."

Maybe it's a phone first with a great music player.

What you are missing is that many people use
many computers and it is very inconvenient to have
all the songs stored in a single computer. The
playlist
solution does not work in this case.

Ah, I never realized that manually managing music allowed you to use multiple computers in that way. I can see how losing that would be annoying.

Well, that should be our decision and risk to take. Apple can easily display a reminder warning on our phone and/or computer saying our phone is in the process of syncing and give us an option to stop the tranfer and dismount, or continue and let the call go to voicemail.

In fact, that's what it essentially does now... stop the sync if a call comes in to allow the call to be answered.

You really need a reality check. People can have more then two laptops as they can have more then two homes or two cars ( not two wives ) .
I have computer at my work and home. When I am leaving I need to get the music, videos that I have downloaded on my office machine to iPhone so that I can hear it while I am going back home.

Also I have perfect scenario. My one PC is broken and the only data I have is in iPhone and I need to add more music/video files now. When I try to sync with other computer it says it will erase all the previous data. So this means either I have to choose between loosing all the data or never sync up. Doesn’t this defeat the purpose?

I called Apple and they say it's not possible and have apologized. It's common sense in today’s digital world to be able to transfer from one device to another device seamlessly. There is no rocket science here but it's attitude of people like you and Apple.
If Apple continues there strategy they will be soon doomed by another smart phone company. ( Although I like Apple products but you have to be rational and practical.)

So think over it once again and try to understand the problem the people are facing.

Removing this feature from the iPhone's ipod makes me very angry. This was a critical feature for me since I have music on multiple machines. I should be able to drag the music I want from either my home or work machine to my phone. This means that my phone is tied to exactly one computer for music features. Far worse than my much older Nano. Is anyone from Apple listening? Please fix this! The iPhone's great in many ways but this really cripples it.
