Software required not installed with iTunes 7.3.0.54
I've updated to iTunes 7.3.0.54 but when I connect the iPhone I get a message that says, "The software required for iPhone is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install iTunes again." I uninstalled iTunes carefully following the procedure in
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698, but when I reinstall iTunes 7.3.0.54 I get the same message about required software not being installed. Now what?
I'm using the 32 bit version of Windows XP Pro. We bought two iPhones. I was able to activate my wife's phone on her workstation which is identical to mine. The whole process took about six minutes. I then tried activating my iPhone on my laptop computer which is also running the 32 bit version of XP Pro. Again activation took place in less than six minutes.
I tried the complete removal process on my workstation as per artnum=93698 plus the suggestions made by b noir. Still no joy. However, one thing I don't understand is when I reinstall iTunes, it still has the playlists and configuration settings from the previous install. I can't figure out where it is getting these settings after a complete uninstall including a manual deletion of any residual directories.
I am left with a working iPhone, but one which I can not sync with iTunes, Outlook, Internet favorites, etc., etc.
