The biggest cause I've seen of this problem is people not quite understanding how accelerometers work.

The device needs to have the screen perpendicular (or close to it)to the ground in order to function properly. If you held it in your hand, flat like a pancake or something, it can't work.

How would it know what direction it was "facing"? If you stood there, then turned left, technically the iPhone has just been rotated 90 degrees. They can't have it flipping the screen all around just because you're not walking a perfectly straight line.

Accelerometers are based on gravity and can only function certain ways. The one thing they can basically assume is that gravity is generally going to be pulling you towards the earth, and that your head is up top, and your feet are down below! The device is limited by what they can logically assume about your position. Oh, and the standard rules of gravity!

you seem to know alot about this...can you help me? here's my situation:

I spent all night gertting it activated, had to reset, replace, used all the troubleshooting advice...and now i can recieve calls--but not make them, but screen freezes each "second" command. Meaning the first touch works, then nothing. Must restart. Sometimes the unlock slider won't work either, must restart again. URGGGG! I've been on hold for 2 hours this morning with apple, an hour after that w/at&t--they passed the buck and won't turn the other service back on either. I bought 2 of these things--my 8GB is on its way! I'm told to get a retun code from apple, so now i'm 700 minutes on hold for that!!

any advice for me??? thanx 😟
