MacBook fails to see Canon ZR830 Camcorder

Installed the Mac software. Software cannot find camera when using USB connection. Bought a DVI firewire cable. MacBook still cannot find camera. Camera does not appear in Finder.

Geeze, what next? I just returned the Sony HDD camera as HD's won't work with Mac; now I can't get this tape model to work. At first I thought it might be a defective cable, but firewire doesn't work either. Any thoughts?

Camera does not appear in Finder

Camera connected through firewire never appears in the Finder (it is not like an external disk).

You can capture from a firewire camera using FCP, FCE or iMovie if all connections and setups are correct. You have to first open one of these applications and to connect to the camera from them. Each application has a sligtly different procedure to follow, so it is important to know which one you use.

First, iMovie and FCE work with cams that connect via FireWire, not USB. So no surprise that it didn't see your camera when connected via USB.

Second, the camera will NEVER appear in the Finder. It will appear in iMovie or FCE.

Third, the camera needs to be connected & turned ON before you start iMovie or FCE for those apps to recognize the camera.

Exactly what camera so you have?

Hope that helps some ...
