text in photoshop for 16:9 project?

Hi everyone,

Just curious about something.. I originally made a still frame in After Effects, set for widescreen DV, and the outputted text looks like this:

However, when trying to recreate the text in photoshop, it appears to be square pixelish (even though I had the pixel aspect ratio set to 1.2... But photoshop does say that the pixel aspect ratio is for previewing only.. ??)-- and it looks like this:

So, I am wondering, am supposed to be distorting my text somehow in photoshop before I bring it into FCP?

Because the version from AE looks good on my video monitor, but the photoshop version looks kinda weird.

thanks

Okay, just to clarify. You are working on a graphic in Photoshop that is 720x480. You have set Image > Pixel Aspect Ratio > D1/DV NTSC Widescreen (1.2), and using View > Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction to view the image. To use the graphic in FCP, after importing, make sure in the settings for the graphic that the Anamorphic option is checked, and it will display correctly, provided that your sequence is also D1/DV Anamorphic.

I guess what I am saying is.. If PAR is only for preview purposes, is there a method to construct text so that it's stretched out properly and looks right in 16:9 ?

Like I notice that 16:9 video in FCP that doesn't have anamorphic "checked" will have an image distort of 33%

Is it simply that I should distort all my text in photoshop my 66%, so that it gets stretched out in FCP? Am I making sense?

Use the PAR Correction view in PS to design the graphic, making it look exactly how you want it to. The resulting 720x480 image will look thin and tall, but since it has a PAR of 1.2 (anamorphic), FC will unsqueeze it and display it properly, as long as the image is set for anamorphic in FC. You may need to re-adjust your Distortion property for it to display properly.

I hope I'm being clear; I'm not infront of FC to be able to refer to it.
