I can sync my Outlook Contacts but NOT my Outlook Calendar. I receive an error message "cannot sync calendars because iPhone disconnected." Obviously, I am not removing the iPhone from the cradle or manipulating it in any way during the sync. All items are checked for syncing in iTunes. I have both plug-ins added and checked in Outlook. Photos/videos/music sync fine. I have Outlook 2003 SP2 and the latest version of iTunes. It just seems strange that my contacts sync without a problem but the calendar won't sync.
Has anybody encountered this error message?

Well, after an hour on the phone with Apple (level 2 support), they basically admitted that they are aware of a problem with the iTunes sync plugin for Outlook. They have escalated the problem to engineering, and are hoping for resolution soon (whatever that means).

I have spent (wasted) about 5 hours trying everything I could find on the apple forums, here, and anywhere with only transient luck. After reinstalling iTunes and re-enabling the plugin manually in Outlook, I got the iPhone to sync contacts and calendar once. Since then, no syncing, and I still get the Outlook error every time it launches.

Let's hope they fix this soon.

Same here . . .still. I have been trying all of the sugested fixes and nothing has worked. Outlook will not allow the Outlook sync add-in to run. I also can not get the iPhone to pop-up in the "My Computer" window as a camera or device. So, I cannot access and down load the photos I have taken with my iPhone. I don't know if the problems are related, but I'm sure waisting alot of time trying to get this thing working the way I hoped it would.

Another user already posted this, but it worked for
me also. If you have the Live Search Maps Add-In for
Microsoft Office Outlook installed, there is a
conflict. You probably have already tried to get the
sync addin to stay checked.

1. Go to control panel>add/remove programs
2.find Live Search Maps Add-In for Microsoft Office
Outlook and uninstall it
3.open outlook>tools>trust center>addins>dropdown
menu to disabled>go
4. click on disabled itune sync addin and then
activate it.
5.go to Coms addin in drop down box and check the
unckecked sync addin. No error message should
appear that would disable it when you push apply.
Close outlook and try syncing again.

Removing Live Search add-in from Outlook appears to have fixed my problem. I was syncing but none of the contacts or appointments were actually transferring.

Syncing still takes 10-15 minutes for Calendar and Contacts on my Windows machine.

Some more information for thsoe folks (like me) that have been struggling with Outlook calendars syncing with their iPhone.

Curiously enough....even iTunes 7.3.1 released today did not fix the issue. I was speaking with Apple support and we got it to work on a new mailbox....so I knew it had to be something with my Exchnage connection profile.

I started looking in my folders (Go-Folder List) for my Exhcnage mailbox. In the Sync Issues folders I found the key.....sync errors and a url that refers to this known Microsoft issue. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842284/en-us

I disabled the offline folder and deleted the old .ost file. Re-enabled it and created a new .ost file and presto.....calendar items sync...except reoccurring meetings. Haven't figured that one out yet....but I'll keep trying.

So when Apple says this stuff works it does....except for the parts they don't control....get the drift!

Here another hint.....a corrupted or error bearing .ost (offline folder) in Outlook will cause the iTune Add-In to crash Outlook. Guaranteed...everytime....

Fix the .ost file or replace the corrupt MS files per my previous post and the Apple Add-Ins don't have any problems.

Make sure you do a complete sync with the Exhcnage server after you replace the OST file and before you try and sync with the iPhone.

Re-occurring appointments still don't get copied to the iPhone....Enjoy!

I have talked to Apple on three occasions about this. The most recent was last night after waiting three days for a promised callback from an engineer. The specialist told me that it was a Microsoft issue and that Apple was working with Microsoft to reolve the issue. She said that Microsoft would likely post a fix in "a couple" days. When I pressed her on how that would happen, she referred me to the Apple "discussion boards." Bottom line is that I did not feel I was being given reliable information.

I was having the widely reported problems synching contacts and calendar with Outlook (error when launching Outlook, iTunes Sync plugin being disabled, etc.). Well, since I installed the update to iTunes that was released today, the problems are all gone!

Outlook opens without an error, the iTunes Sync plugin stays enabled, and most importantly, my contacts and calendar sync in both directions (new items, deleted items and changed items).

Has anyone else had this kind of luck? Nothing else on my system has changed; just the iTunes and Quicktime update.

Hooray!

I guess the Apple product specialist I spoke to Tuesday night wasn't lying when he said they were working to get a fix by the end of the week.

YES, but with several attempts. All is working great, however, I am having problems with my Calendar events not syncing when I create an event, appt, meeting, etc in Outlook.

Do this:
1. Export all of your contacts in Outlook to your desktop as a .CSV file
2. If your contacts are sitting on a corporate server like mine, delete them ALL, but DONT do this until you are 100% positive you exported them to your desktop
3. Once you have deleted them from Outlook sync outlook
4. Import ALL of your contacts back in as a VCARD, sync outlook, then sync your iphone

You should be good to go....

I had the same problem with Outlook 2003. You must go to the Help Tab, click on About. Look to the bottom of the screen and locate for the Disabled Items Tab.

You will find the Itunes Add-Ins which has been automatically disbled resulting in your checked items not remaining.

Uncheck these, go back to the Advanced Tab and try checking again. they should remain checked. It worked perfectly for me.
