iPhone causing static noise from computer speakers

Ummmm, yea, it's a cell phone, every cell phone I've ever seen has made this kind of buzz static on speakers close by.

It's like a Bzzt-Bzzt-Bzzt-bt-bt-bt-bzzzzzzt. Perhaps goto best buy and try to find a pair of speakers that doesn't make that noise when the phone is close. (The phone doesn't make it all the time, just when it's talking to the Cell towers.)

Sorry, it's normal. Cellphone frequencies are often picked up by computer speakers. Sometimes it will give you a warning about an incoming call because you will hear the static kick in before the phone rings.

That happens with any cell phone. It's not unique to the iPhone.

I always knew when my Blackberry was about to get an email, because the buzz would start through my speakers. The same thing happens with my Nokia if it gets a call or an SMS. I call it the early warning system.

I can't give you a technical explanation, but I've noticed over the years that any time a cell phone receives data - whether it is a call, SMS or internet-related - nearby speakers will buzz. I've even heard it happen in lecture halls and auditoriums. I don't think there is any way to fix it or stop it, it is something to do with frequencies. If it annoys you, just don't keep it near your speakers.

It's the phone talking to the GSM network. Does not happen for CDMA-based phones.

That makes sense. I've only used carriers that are on the GSM network, as I travel overseas a lot.

This is normal for unshielded speakers. What's weird is that I'm seeing it with my iPhone right next to my PowerBook G4 17" with it's built in speakers (can't replicate with an old pair of shielded Sony external speakers). The built in shielding on the PowerBook SHOULD be sufficient.

I've never seen this with any other cell phone and this (or any other power book I've had (5 or 6)). It doesn't do it with my old cell phone, even directly on top of the PB's speaker.

Not true every phone causes this. I am in an area where alot of directors and GM's are and I can tell when one of their blackberry's will ring a few seconds before it does, by the sound on my bose speakers. Also when they come into my area or near my area the buzzing gets louder. To my knowledge it only happens with Blackberry's, my iphone, and one persons razor, but most everyone has these company supplied cheaper verizon phones and there is no noise from them at all.

My iphone does this to the tv, and car stereo, and telephones as well.Probably why they make you turn your stuff off in the hospitals.

It is only a GSM thing that causes the buzzing sound, it is the network doing a phone ID search that causes the problem. It is how the edge network runs. This never happen years ago with GSM. CDMA will never cause the buzzing issue. I have work with CDMA, GSM and WCDMA networks as a regulatory engineer for years and I know which phones/networks cause the problems.
