Volume on Voice calls is horrible

Try a hard reset of the phone by holding down the home button and the Sleep/wake button until you get the apple logo on the screen.

Try that and see if it makes a difference
also check that the volume is turned all the way up on the side of the phone

i havent had any volume problems. i know this is stupid but have you tried turning up the volume all the way with the side buttons?

From what I understand the volume from the speaker is limited when you are on speaker phone. Given that the mic & speaker are located so close to each other, hi volume output would bleed into the mic input creating a feed back / echo effect to the person you are speaking with.

Did you try going to Settings>IPod and look at the sound options? On mine the Sound Check is ON, The Audiobook Speed is normal and the EQ and Volume Limit settings are OFF. This might help.

Try this - seems to work even on voice calls for some people.

Settings > iPod > Volume Limit > Set to Max > Lock Volume Limit > Code 0000.

Even though this is under "iPod" settings, many users are reporting this is working.

I am not experiencing any problem myself, though. My call volume is fine.

How do I get to the settings using Windows XP?

When using the iPhone headset OR the speaker while on
a voice call, the volume is very very quiet. Anyone
else experiencing this? If I use the iPod or YouTube,
the volume is adequate at its highest setting. So
clearly the speaker is capable of getting louder, why
is it so muted for voice calls?

Having same trouble - volume is absurdly quiet when volume is raised to its highest level, both when using the handset and the speaker phone. Basically can't use the phone when driving on the highway given background noise of my car (VW Passat - not that loud). My ear is sore from pressing it into the sharp edge of the leather case. Situation is no different when the leather case is off and the phone is crammed into my ear. Have tried the suggestion to lock and unlock the max volume, and set at its highest level, and there was no change in max volume.

Not sure why this thread got marked "answered"? (Maybe just a newbie to this forum type.)

So, i found that if I slide the phone up and down on my ear, there does seem to be a sweet spot that makes it a bit better, but still not all that good. (and that doesn't resolve the speakerphone).

Perhaps most of the (apparently very few) field testers used a headset in order to help hide the device from others... and thus never noticed the volume problem.
